1) They must have beaten at least two higher-seeded teams in the tournament. As you see, unless Duke or Syracuse gets beat tonight, the first time a "Cinderella" could potentially be named would be on Saturday. Even then, I would hesitate to name Washington as a Cinderella if they beat New Mexico, since I think that beating a team from the Mountain West Conference shouldn't really count.
2) The only exception to Rule 1) is if a 16 seed ever beats a 1 seed.
How 'bout that Big East? Isn't it cute when people think that conference is supposedly the best in basketball? They're so funny...
Update 1327 20 March: OK, so St. Mary's now qualifies as a "Cinderella", but let's face it -- it appears that beating a "Big Least" team this year isn't really that much of a surprise...
I watch for the Marine Corps commercials...
ReplyDeleteI dont know much about basketball but I favor the underdogs whoever that is when the dust settles.
ReplyDeleteKirk
I love your definition of cinderella: Viva la Underdog!!
ReplyDeleteI've rooted against Kansas since the days of Danny Manning. I thought he was over rated.
ReplyDeleteI think I am just jealous because my school doesn't really shine on the national sports scene and we didn't get to say rock chalk Jayhawk all the time. The only one more irritating than that one is War Eagle. just my opinion.
Regarding the Big Least-let's see who's still standing in the Elite Eight before we get too funny!
ReplyDeleteBig East = Big Bust. Go ACC!
ReplyDeletewhoami?:
ReplyDeleteWhat makes War Eagle annoying to you?
@whoami? - I graduated from Kansas in 1988, the year Manning led KU to the National Championship. Having watched basically all his games, I can assure you that, despite all the hype, he was not at all overrated. I saw him make passes that would have been on the Top Ten Assists of all time list had his teammates had been heads up enough to expect them. He was truly an outstanding college basketball player.
ReplyDeleteSeconding ret.cob.
ReplyDeleteDanny Manning was a fantastic player. If not for those knee injuries, the pro career he would have had...
Make that two Cinderella teams...
ReplyDeleteSo much for the Kansas national championship. You know as much about basketball as you do everything else. Zip point shit.
ReplyDeleteOuch. Well, there goes President Obama's bracket...
ReplyDeleteJoel,
ReplyDeleteMy condolences.
Go Big Blue!
Well at least someone at Cornell U. knows how to handle their balls.
ReplyDeleteAll the static about the big dog teams sort of reminds me of a story about Buella the Rock Locker, aka, lithium bromide units...
I'm just sayin', Michigan State has some shooters! I happened to notice in between the USMC commercials...
ReplyDeletefrom MI
Go Big Red!!! And even with all the comments associated with CDR Cima, the B'ball team is off to the Sweet Sixteen...and I do believe based on your criteria that this qualifies as Cinderella-but Jay Bilas is on to something!!
ReplyDeletePurdue squeaks by to play another one.
ReplyDeleteCornell has a tough match with Kentucky but maybe they will put up a good game. Still, it is refreshing that the basketball team can effectively use their balls properly. Maybe they can teach others at Cornell just how that works.
Awesome USMC commercials.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Kansas? This must be rigged, lol. Is that NBA ref who was gambling and fixing games now working for the NCAA? Probably not.
ReplyDeleteKansas and Arkansas, maybe there could be a substitute? Pretty close in letters, lol.
ReplyDeleteSome kid with a track record of picking wins. He picked Cornell getting to the Kentucky game and his overall prediction is PURDUE.
ReplyDeleteHe has been accurate for his last 48 picks if the news is accurate.
He has Autism but is some kind of a math genuis.
Purdue, who would of thunk they would even be this far?
For you math whizs, what are the odds that this kid successfuly picked the first 48 games of the 2010 NCAA Championships? Are these astronomical or what?
ReplyDeleteHe picked Purdue as the one?
Little Butler hanging in there.
ReplyDeleteCornell tried valiantly but the Wildcats brought their game faces.
ReplyDeleteKansas State and Butler marching onward.
Purdue in the wings.
Duke hands Purdue their lunch. Until next season for the Boilermakers.
ReplyDeleteAs Butler sings, "How do you like me now...."
ReplyDeleteCinderella Butler and East Coast Duke. It looks like the naysayers get to eat some crow and see some decent ball after all.
ReplyDeleteThose silly teams from the East, it is like they are champions or something like that...
ReplyDelete
