Shocked!!1!!(3-2)!!1!

Shocked! Yes, shocked I am about the news that guys on overseas boondoggles, staying in fancy hotels, may have availed themselves of sampling the local culture. Such a thing has clearly never happened in the past! It's all Obama's fault! But as they say, it only takes one guy trying to wheedle out of paying the hooker to ruin a good deal for everyone else.
I honestly expected that the lid would be blown, so to speak, over the goings-on in WestPac liberty ports (not by Submariners, of course, but by other guys) during the McCain presidential run in 2008, but if I remember right a couple of stories that came out detailing some PI stories generated nothing more than a bored yawn. I think the American people as a whole understand that when guys go overseas some of them might get their freak on.
If you think I'm going to ask for comments from those who want to tell their favorite story about whoring on the government dime on a blog read by Submarine Wives, no way I'm going to do that. Of course, if you want to tell stories about what "Skimmers" and "Airdales" do, that's fine.

  2. All hope is not lost.

Back in the day, I worked for six submarine commanding officers over the course of time. As it happened, most were good guys...two of them later became COMSUBPAC.

Of the six, I witnessed only one messing around while overseas (not one of the two later-CSPs). Interestingly, the philanderer was not a 'submariner's submariner', but was rather something of a NR stooge who was inordinately weak in both leadership & tactical skills.

AS regards Obama, all I can say is "sorry, Joel"...but it's always about the leadership. Always. The POTUS sets the tone...make no mistake...in any administration.

My only shock here is that the press actually reported what happened.

Having said all that, my condolences go out to the very real human beings and families that have been hurt and will be hurt by this. Focus on the love, folks. Whatever you choose to focus on grows...and love truly does conquer all.

  5. It's fairly clear that the Secret Service didn't hold a lot of respect for Obama. That's due to one thing -- he hasn't earned it.

    ReplyDelete
  6. “-- he hasn't earned it.” What a load of crap. If you ever served you know this fundamental statement is true: you might not respect the man but you will respect the uniform. When you take an oath you put your personal feelings second. If you can’t do that then quit!
Now there was this "skimmer puke" in Rosie Roads PR who dined on a fuzzy clam of a well-worn lady at the black angus and got some weird VD of the tongue. It swelled up so bad we had to medevac him home, needless to say the wife was not happy.

  8. Apparently, the "SS" (Secret Service) had the President's schedule with them while they were out chasing tail. Makes you wonder who those 'ladies' were, exactly.

Call it whatever you want...but I don't call it anything close to being respectful of the president.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I assume the "Leadership is responsible" crowd believes that Secret Service agents never brought hookers back to their rooms while doing advance work in the 1981-1988 time period?

    ReplyDelete
  10. A proper reply reminds me of the statement that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg made to the Winklevoss brothers: "If you guys were the inventors of Facebook, you'd have invented Facebook."

I.e., if full-blown SS agents would've been caught with hookers during '81-'88...they'd have been caught with hookers.

Don't go denying reality on us, Joel. It is what it is.

  11. Thanks to the sweet logic above, Saint Reagan was fully and completely responsible for John Walker.

And Bush was responsible for Abu Ghraib, Operation Anaconda, the death of Pat Tillman, and of course, 9/11.

  14. "...whoring on the government dime."

Really? Can anyone name even one S/S agent who was on actually on duty at the time of his dalliance?

The lapse of Obama's male Secret Service detail to uphold the historical pride of their mission may have been engendered (and is unfortunately underreported, so far) by the same cultural dynamic foisted upon male submarine sailors -- a novation that subjects a once elite, all-male service infiltrated and demoralized by a physically inferior gender:

Any female Secret Service agent assigned to the president’s armed security detail would have to:
    1) be large enough and run long enough and fast enough for her body to intercept some bullets intended for the president; 2) trustworthy enough to keep details of the itinerary to herself;
    3) reliable enough to maintain 24-7 rigor regardless of typical female health cycles and yeast infections.

No female is young and vigorous enough to fit all of the above requirements.

Female S/S agents attending the president’s personal security detail may certainly be armed, but my pedestrian guess is that they probably perform administrative and logistics functions only. By the way, administrative functions are exactly what women currently assigned to submarines are assigned to perform.

The rate of females assigned to naval vessels being medically unfit to deploy is excessive well beyond their numbers. For surface vessels that has usually been manageable. For submarines, however, sacrificing stealthly deployments of national security significance for female health issues requiring at-sea medevacs (including any pregnancy onset) is quite another matter.

  15. No one here is saying that Obama is directly responsible for the behavior of the SS. People, including me, are saying that the SS sole and direct job here is to protect the president, and that they both did a lousy job of that and showed substantial disrespect to his office.

What Obama IS responsible for is the glaring lack of respect that has now been shown very publicly to him.

    Clear enough?

Not that I thought anyone was really confused on the above points...but your words were certainly intended to cause such confusion.

Stupid is as stupid does. And TSSBP.

  16. ^^^ Obozo gets all the respect he deserves.

Besides, what's the big deal? If some 30+ year old skanky ho law school "student" can bitch to Congress about not being able to pay for all of her contraceptives and Obozo run to her defense, what's his complaint gonna be here? (obviously not counting security issues)

    ReplyDelete
  17. The core message here is not being directed to the president, nor is this about his being offended.

The core message is that the Secret Service clearly holds Obama in very low esteem...and the recipient of that message is We the People. Provided, of course, that We are being observant. No small proviso.

Someone thinks they're clever for using terms like Obozo.

I remember when there used to be some pretty savvy discourse on this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It's the intellect that has gone to shit in the 8:32 PM comment.

Think about it: the Secret Service is on an advance mission to Columbia set up protection for the president. In the course of events, 21 guys end up with 21 hookers in their own hotel rooms.

You CAN'T ignore the obvious security problems with that. You COULD ignore the whoring, were it not done on government per diem expense (and it was).

Bottom line: the agents clearly had a give-a-shit, disrespectful attitude about the president and his security. Why? Ask yourself, and if you're capable of an honest answer, the truth is yours to behold

    ReplyDelete
  21. I love this excuse. "I drove drunk and got kicked out because my CO was a dick and didn't deserve respect." Bradley Manning only released information to Wikileaks because he did not respect Obama. The San Fran ran aground because they hated Bush... Etc.

    The logic is mind boggling.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree -- your logic is ridiculous.

The Secret Service's only job is to protect the president. No dozens of people in an intermediate chain of command, such as in your asinine examples.

That 21 of the agents spent their time whoring around instead of ensuring absolute security speaks volumes. Much unlike your attempt at discourse.

I don't think you're capble of being honest. So good day to you, sir. Better life next time, perhaps.

  23. These guys were in a position of trust and power. Just like the current situation with the GSA executives, they abused their power, and thought they were above common American core values. America truly is the new Roman Empire.

    ReplyDelete
  24. ^^^Wish I could agree with your comment on thinking they were 'above common American core values'...but like a lot of the shitbird comments here, some people think that what they did was perfectly normal.

Which raises an interesting point: no military officers were involved...only enlisted. Just telling it like it is.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh brother! Of course it wasn't Obama's fault and nobody was dis'n him.

It was some guys on travel getting some pussy. Men having been doing it for thousands of years. Armies have traveled with their own brothels.

I have seen submariners (of all ranks, MYSELF INCLUDED) while in a port other than homeport doing the same things. Let's face it, unless you are a gay man or straight woman, everyone else on the planet is after that little hole between a womans legs. And for the others, when I was an MP in Subic, there where bars for the fags and for lesbians...everyone got what they needed and relieved pressure before heading back to sea. Ports have served Sailors for hundreds of years for the same purpose.

The Navy used to support hygiene clinic for the girls in PI, sometimes staffed and supplied by the United States governmet for the sole purpose of potecting Sailors so they can continue the mission of hunting commies.

I have had CO's bring girls onboard ships and submarines, officer, Chiefs, Sailors all the way down to the lowest seaman whoring in town, married or unmarried. There are also some who don't partake...more power to them.

This is nothing new to the year 2012. This is not the first time. This will not be the last time.

This will exist as long as that little hole between a women's leg remains one of the most powerful forces known to man (just look at CO's and COB's getting fired).

It happens and if you don't get a disease, offend your god, disappoint your grandma, get caught by your wife, girlfriend, boyfriend or whatever, it's great and pleasurable. If it shows up on CNN then TSSBP.

Anyway, stop the drama. It is what it is and always will be.

Pretty interesting, this. Twenty-eight years USN, Eighteen years shipboard sea duty; two attack boats.

Never heard of such behavior. Uh, right, heh. Been there, done that.

What I find most interesting is that the media has really jumped on this, during this administration. A Democrat administration. That is why I am surprised that the media has jumped on it.

I am not surprised that a bunch of guys, deployed, have um, met some young ladies and invited them to their rooms. Stuff happens.

I am a little surprised that these advance party folks stepped out, and one of them balked at paying the tab. That's what seems to have drawn the attention of folks.

I guess we'll see what we'll see. Red faces for sure.

  29. I'll call bullshyt on the "core message". The core message is that they will use anything they can in the lame stream media to ensure you don't hear about what the nobama admin is actually doing. When the FOCK is a federal budget going to be signed? Tell me that?? Not since that POS's first year?
BTW, they were just supporting the economy in Colombia, it's legal there. There were two sailors involved, so it MUST be their fault!
There were 3 types of married guys on submarines, the lords of the ring, those that were stoopid, and those that hung out together and did not speak of such things to anybody else.

  30. BTW, they were just supporting the economy in Colombia, it's legal there.

I very much doubt their wives and children can find much humor in this. Is legal the same thing as moral? Care to accompany me to a few nations in the Middle East, and see how long your life lasts? Killing infidels is perfectly legal there.

    Word for the day: Forgiveness

We be needin' a few buckets full o' that, fer sure.

  31. One of the hookers went back to a hotel room with two agents. The woman wanted to be paid for serving both agents.

Instead, the agents would only agree to split her price.

  32. I can pretty much guarantee the sailors paid the tab and then some. We don't have an issue cuffing up cash, they just got brought down by the Secret Service. Checklist after leaving liberty port:

    1. Hungover (check)!
    2. Got laid (check)!
    3. Broke because I gave away my paycheck to Suzy/Suki or whatever common name for said port (CHECK)!

    Damn rookie Secret Service.....

  33. The core message is that they will use anything they can in the lame stream media to ensure you don't hear about what the nobama admin is actually doing.

So let me see if I understand this correctly.

If the "lame stream" media doesn't cover a story, it's because they're in the bag for Obama and they're hiding the story to protect him.

If they do cover the story, it's because they're helping distract from failed policies.

That's a pretty slick narrative you've got going there.

This has nothing to do with the President. Some sleaze bags felt that they could get away with banging some Columbian hood rats (some I bet weren't just hookers...) and didn’t think about the repercussions of their actions.

This all comes down to a bunch of scum bags having a total disregard for their job, responsibilities, their families, and their country.

Despite prostitution being legal, people can still be forced/coerced into working as prostitutes, which is why DoD employees are specifically prohibited from participating in activities that support Trafficking in Persons.

"4. POLICY. It is DoD policy to:
    a. Oppose prostitution, forced labor, and any related activities as described in section 3 that may contribute to the phenomenon of TIP as inherently harmful and dehumanizing. TIP is a violation of U.S. law and internationally recognized human rights, and is incompatible with DoD core values.
    b. Deter activities of DoD Service members, civilian employees, indirect hires, contract personnel, and command-sponsored dependents that would facilitate or support TIP, domestically and overseas. This includes activities such as pandering, prostitution, and patronizing a prostitute even though such activities may be legal within a host nation country, but which are in violation of chapter 47 of title 10, U.S.C. Entirely true. Occam's razor and all that. Any submariner who really thinks that this was a one time thing and only happened because these guys somehow hate the President are f-ing delusional. Recall, if you will, that these guys VOLUNTEER to be on his detail, and as volunteers, VOLUNTEER to take a bullet for him as needed. Get a grip folks. The retarded on this narrative got launched so far and so fast that it's currently somewhere in the Klingon Empire.

Also, they don't work directly for the president any more than I worked directly for the CNO when I was a first class. They work for their supervisor or agent in charge or whatever, who works for his supervisor, who eventually works for the secretary of the treasury. You guys will go to any extreme to construct any narrative to denigrate the President, no matter how tortured that narrative may be.

They got caught because they got smart and realized that they were up to something. These wives started driving cars that the family couldn't afford. The wife told the husband to not worry about it.

  71. vigilis, you are so totally and completely full of BS that your eyes have to be brown.

Submariners make their money by being smart, not by being brawny. Any frakkin nub knows that on day 1. This misogynist BS that you sling is simply idiotic.

"a novation that subjects a once elite, all-male service infiltrated and demoralized by a physically inferior gender" Do your mother and your wife, if you are married, know how much you hate women????

It is worthwhile to keep that in mind.

  77. See today's WSJ article on the character crisis in America.

To today's submarine admirals and senior captains: you're in a position to not only no longer be part of the problem, but part of the solution.

And to any who may say this isn't your job to fix amongst your sailors, and yourselves, I can only echo the words of HGR: "Why not?"

  78. The retired ANAV is the only one who gets it right.

The hole carried around by women has started wars, spread disease, given life, and is the most sought out single thing in the world.

These were men who, like men have been doing for thousands of years, did what comes natural between normal men and women.

Nothing more, nothing less, nothing sinister or earth shaking. No more than what happens everyday and every night all over the world.

What amazes me is how phony shocked the politicians are. It's like they have never heard of sex (with the exception of Bill Clinton, of course). This just proves how out of touch a politician is, regardless of party, with the everyday citizen.

Unfortunately, the military will take an extreme, reactionary approach to this. Standby for more stupid training!

  79. So..... are you saying that we shouldn't have morals and live by a higher ethical standard? Are you saying that we shouldn't be punished when we cheat on our wives or have sex with a prostitute while you are on duty protecting the president?

SS is never off duty. Being in the Navy, I am never truly off duty either. I live my life so i can serve you idiots who don't have a moral compass.

If you don't see anything inherently wrong about picking up some hood rats while protecting the president... you have some serious issues. I am ashamed to serve with anyone who doesn't see a problem with this situation.

The Secret Service has to be off-duty sometime. Civil Service/OPM rules apply here.

It's shocking that a trained medical professional might be called upon to perform the duties of a trained medical professional. I suppose the women will have the same choice all women do - suffer in silence or seek the available medical attention.

The real question is whether basic gyno issues will be added to IDC training (if it's not there already).

  90. From The Day:

"The chief of the boat on the USS Annapolis has been relieved of his duties due to allegations of alcohol-related misconduct, according to the Navy.

Senior Chief Sonar Technician Gregory Cordray was relieved of his duties Thursday as the most senior enlisted sailor on the Annapolis by the commanding officer of the submarine, according to Submarine Group Two.

The alleged misconduct occurred while Cordray was on liberty overseas, or off-duty while in port, Group Two said. The investigation, which is being conducted by Submarine Development Squadron Twelve in Groton, is ongoing.

Annapolis (SSN 760) is currently deployed. Cordray has been temporarily assigned to the squadron.

Master Chief Electronics Technician Ed Durrua will temporarily assume the duties of the chief of the boat.

Cordray has been on the Annapolis since 2011 and has served in the Navy since 1988. Submarine Group Two could not immediately respond to questions."

Annapolis' official web page now has ETCM (SS) Ed Durrua listed as COB.

  92. That was a quick webpage update. The link had Greg Cordray still listed as COB last night at 2040, and less than 24hrs later it was changed. Someone at CSG-2 is reading this blog...no way a minor page update happens on a Saturday except by direct order. I've frequently seen these pages be months out of date before because of planned turnovers. Very interesting!

Was a Yes to "Hey, who wants to party?" a required answer to a screening question?

  103. OK, so I was only a brownshoe JO and spent my time in outfits chasing Soviet subs around the Pacific in the '80's, but I want to add something. I too did partake of certain off-duty leisure activities overseas on deployments, such as has gotten the SS guys in trouble in Columbia. But here's my point: I would not have done it if it had not been condoned and encouraged by the squadron CO, XO and entire CPO component. Start to finish, I was participating in events and experiences that were either set up or exemplified by the chain of command. I happily/stupidly went along with it, of course, but in later years, after Tailhook and integration of females into the outfit, I was sure sorry that I'd done it. It was just dumb. I was lucky nothing bad happened, but it is nothing I'm proud of doing. I understand male urges and peer pressure and all that, but if the SS is anything like the Navy I was in, it is the chain of command that is responsible and accountable...and probably giving the cues, if not leading the way in such behavior.

    "...There's a passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17.

'The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."
