Prayers Going Out For Soldiers At Ft. Hood And Their Families
Reports of a shooting incident at Ft. Hood indicate that 11 are dead (plus a shooter) and 31 are injured. Initial reports indicate that the dead shooter is Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, and that two other soldiers have been detained as suspects. The dead major is reportedly a psychiatrist. My prayers are going out to the victims, their families, and fellow Soldiers.
We all know that initial reports of incidents are often in error, so hopefully this was a case of one guy losing it, and not a coordinated attack -- hopefully the two suspects are found to just have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Obviously, the name of the dead shooter could lead reasonable people to believe that he is of Muslim heritage. I really, really hope that this wasn't a sleeper cell, and if it was, that people will remember that there are a lot of Muslims and people of Muslim heritage serving honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Update 1700 05 Nov: Newer reports are saying the two Soldiers arrested have been released, indicating that it was a lone gunman.

screen all of these damn hajiis OUT from the armed forces.
Guess again, pinhead. Remember OKC? Everyone was all crazy about the "hajiis" but it turned out to be McVeigh.
From a news story:
The Virginia-born soldier was single with no children. He graduated from Virginia Tech, where he was a member of the ROTC and earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1997.

If you think this was just some guy upset at being deployed, I'd suggest you re-evaluate just how naive to these cockroaches you really are. It's time the General Pershing treatment of this infestation be put into practice.
"A Muslim U.S. Army officer opened fire at Fort Hood in Texas today, killing 11 soldiers and wounding 31, before he was killed by a base police officer.
"The Army identified the gunman as Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan.
"The Army Times said Hasan, 39, was a psychiatrist recently reassigned from Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., to work with soldiers at Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood.
"A cousin, Nader Hasan, told Fox News Malik Hasan had 'always been a Muslim' and was not a convert as had been reported.
"Nader Hasan said his cousin, of Middle Eastern descent, was raised in the U.S., attending high school in northern Virginia and later studying at Virginia Tech.
"Retired Maj. Gen. Robert Scales told Fox News the massacre did not appear to be the act of a mentally ill or extremely stressed person.
"'This was a deliberate act of execution,' he said."

Sweaty, smelly arabs should not be allowed in the military. Let them make falafel or pump gas instead.

"Federal law enforcement officials say the suspected Fort Hood, Texas, shooter had come to their attention at least six months ago because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings and other threats."
Suicide? This is obviously murder!
If the Feds knew 6 months ago he was contemplating "suicide", why was he being deployed?
This is another #$%@ conspiracy with a pathetic coverup story. It does not wash!
M.E. predicted release of the other two suspects, because Obama's fingerprints are on blindsiding domestic conspiracies since ending waterboarding and discouraging wireless intercepts.
Don't take Vigilis's word for it. The media reports this as the the "deadliest mass shooting at a US military base in modern history." More at Molten eagle.

From my post under the La Jolla's CO being canned...
"For all those that think the O-gang is incapable of anything, just look at what one O-4 just did at Fort Hood. As an officer, I would like to think my peers wouldn't do anything shady. I have known several that I would personally like to take behind a woodshed.
And as for that particular Army Major, I hope his firing squad is all officers. Let me know when they call for volunteers."
On top of everything else, this guy also graduated from my alma mater, Virginia Tech. After losing several of my classmates in war (one being buried at Arlington tomorrow) and the horrible massacre we went through ourselves (and one decapitation murder)...I just don't even know what to think. I'm going to personally make sure that this man's name is stricken from the Corps of Cadets if he were a graduate.
Here we are worried about how our Force is going into the meat grinder, and then we see this in the Army. God help all us wearing the uniform...even from those wearing the uniform.

If this Muslim gets the firing squad, I hope and pray that at least ONE of the shooters dips his bullet in pig's blood and then opens up a blog on his doings and goes public.
He'd be my hero.

To the blogger:
Is deleting comments the answer at a time like this? You posted the news. A lot of people are very angry over this murder. No offense to you at all.
However, it is long overdue. All Muslims need to be screened out from the armed forces. This kow-towing must stop, and "feelings" need to stop being in the way.
"Diversity" doesn't work with Islamists in the military.

TRUTH IS NOT BIGOTRY.
No, but you're definitely a bigot, a racist, and a nutjob yourself.
Welcome to the United States of America, where religious freedom is a founding principle. A place where all American citizens can serve in the armed forces, whether you happen to like it or not. And if one of them turns out to be a nutbag and starts shooting at people, we stop him, but we don't rush to judgment on everyone else who may share some of his viewpoints...you arrogant bigot.

This whole thing is unbelievably fucked. I feel very badly for the soldiers who were killed and wounded, but I can't but wonder why the Army is having such problems with maintaining order and discipline in their ranks. That's just crazy.
As a recovering Catholic with 13 years of Catholic schooling, K thru 12 and then 2 years with an Associates in Chefs apprenticeship, I can say those five Catholic dipshits are damned lucky they were not shot for breaching the base. The Marine detachment were well authorized to shoot those idiots if they had not complied once caught.
Yeah, I digress, but I'm just happy we don't have a sailor running around looking to take out half the base with a hand gun. Let's keep it that way shall we?

Okay, a lot of these comments are pretty hateful. Let me explain.
I'm still on active duty and on deployment. One of my shipmates right now got yanked from his post-sea tour duty at short notice to go to Pakistan and work amongst the flying IEDs. Another is at sea, just got his warfare pin, and is probably getting sent on an IA soon. Yet another is in a very sensitive place, doing very hard things at great risk to himself and his family.
All of them are USN officers. All of them are Muslim. All of them fully support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.
From a quick look at this major, I think we'll find a pattern of people being too sensitive or PC to act on disturbing signs. That's systemically wrong and needs to be fixed.
However, going broad brush and ejecting an entire faith is going to be a little hard to do. The German-American folks in WWI had to prove themselves, and the Japanese-Americans in the military went to extreme lengths in order to prove their worthiness and loyalty (and framed the situation that way themselves).
I get the sentiment and am clearly anti-hirabi. I get it. But I want to defend my comrades-in-arms who are defending your rights with their lives--put the broad brush away and think like a submariner. Capice?

My speculations follow: This doctor was obviously sick. His delusions were so great he couldn't talk to anyone about it. And then he snapped = psychotic.
Think about it. He was a psychiatrist. He had dozens of people to talk to, most likely. Yet he remained mute. No warning signs.
I don't know how easy it is to play an insanity defense is in the courtsmartial system is, but I think this creature is eligible.

When 9/11 happened, my first thought was that we were being baited into a war. I say that because the strike clearly could not literally topple the U.S.... it could 'only' enrage us.
People who now call for going after Muslims in the military are taking the same bait. 'They' (extremist, militant, fascist, "so-called"-Muslims) _want_ to make this a religious war. We'll all lose if we allow it to go that way.
When someone has angered you, they have controlled you.
For anyone disrespectful of the Muslim religion, know this: the name that they pray to, "Allah," is effectively the same name Jesus used for God in his native language, Aramaic. Look it up for yourself, and remember -- there is only one God, and we're all his children.
11/06/2009 12:03 AM
When someone has angered you, they have controlled you.
You're actually spot on, friend, but I owe no respect to a religion that lives a lie claiming theirs is a religion of peace, is intolerant of others, and preaches hate in their filthy pack of lies called the quran.
That book is so insignificant it doesn't even deserve to be capitalized.
My anger subsides to further learning of this case and to see justice on this Muslim lunatic brought to light.
Look, I am certain there might be good Muslims out there in our armed forces who do their jobs on a day to day basis and remain patriotic, but I still feel that it is time that all Muslims be released from active duty.
Truth isn't bigotry.
This WILL happen again, again and again, and still those who lead the armed forces will continue taking this ham-handed approach and refuse to blame hajii.

Explaining a whole lot: Steve Harkonnen is a skimmer. Fact.
11/06/2009 8:17 AM
CNN reported a few minutes ago that Maj Hasan was shouting "Allahu akbar" before/during the shooting. Considering the authorities had noticed his postings on forums, he had a history of proselityzing, and, more specifically, he considered suicide bombers as heroes, I think the logical conclusion is that this was an act of prepared terrorism. It appears he acted alone, which is good, but nonetheless it is terrorism, not the act of someone who just lost it.
Of course we should let the investigation run its course before coming to solid conclusions, but the pieces of the puzzle that we do have point strongly in one direction.
11/06/2009 8:50 AM
Don’t worry, your commander in chief cares about you honors your sacrifices:
"At the event, a Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian affairs, the president thanked various staffers and offered a "shout-out" to "Dr. Joe Medicine Crow -- that Congressional Medal of Honor winner." Three minutes in, the president spoke about the shooting, in measured and appropriate terms."

I would also like to point out that this story came from NBC of all places. Not exactly the most anti-Obama news source.

This guy was a known problem for some time. His antics had been reported up and down the chain of command but not one of the ass clown perfumed princes wanted to make a stink of it. Now, ala the Pat Tillman cover-up, we will be told how this guy was:
1) upset at deployment orders
2) on meds
3) some combination of 1 & 2
Never ever, even though it's already been reported, will the official version report that this pedophile worshiping muslim POS screamed allahu akbar while on his sick quest to find 72 prepubescent girls.
On a related matter, why was this swine cock $ucker taken into custody alive? I don't give a damn what the ROEs are - this guy should have been put down on the spot. No questioning, no court martial, no time, just "enjoy Hell."
And on a final note, where you find islam, you find war and oppression. Islam is an infestation that only elimination can cure. Get every last one of these bastards out of the military.
Don't like my opinion? Lick muhammed's ass.
11/06/2009 9:01 AM
Anon 9:01am,
From what I understand, the "allahu akbar" quote came from the base commander. It might have been against what the PAO would have liked, but it's not like it was "an anonymous source from DOD."
Also, he was taken alive so investigators could, hopefully, question him to make sure he had no accomplices and has no information on similar plots elsewhere. Once they're done, send him to the firing squad.
There won't be a Pat Tillman-like cover-up, if only because too much information came out already about this guy obviously being a practicing Muslim, possibly planning this out, and even just something getting very close to hate speech (praising suicide bombers, etc). There will be a lot of spinning done, but covering this up would be like covering up the Exxon Valdez spill: you can try, but it won't be of much use.
11/06/2009 9:30 AM
Chap is right. Anyone who wants to kick all Muslims out of the Armed Services needs to do some research on what happened to Japanese-Americans in the Armed Forces in WWII, and how well they fought for America when given the chance (e.g. the 442nd Infantry Regiment). Anyone who thinks that Japanese Shintoism at the time was any less chauvinistic that Islam today really needs to study history, and by and large these Japanese-Americans fought with honor for our country. I have no doubt that the vast majority of Americans of Muslim heritage are doing the same.
For this particular bad apple? He has a date with a needle in his near future, and I won't shed any tears when he does. I'd push the plunger myself.
11/06/2009 9:55 AM
In other news: you can make O-4 without ever deploying? The hell...I put on O-3 in the middle of my second deployment.
Yeah: medical and all that crap, but still.

Lest any of you be deceived, this POS will never be executed. He's part of a protected class that the limp-wristed PC types will do whatever it takes to prevent it from happening. Of course, they'll make so lame ass argument about not wanting to allow him to be made a martyr, but the truth is they don't have the stomach to pull the trigger.
And referring to this guy as a "bad apple" is indicative of the problem. The enemy is inside the wire and a great majority of our population is unwilling to recognize the handwriting on the wall.

Never knew we had so many whack jobs in the Submarine Force.
11/06/2009 10:48 AM
Oh, and for all you nutjobs complaining about "diversity", guess who it was that brought down the shooter?
From CNN:
A civilian police officer who shot the Fort Hood gunman four times during his bloody rampage stopped the attacker cold, a U.S. Army official said Friday.
Officer Kimberly Munley of the Fort Hood Police Department is a "trained, active first responder" who acted quickly after she "just happened to encounter the gunman," said Lt. Gen. Robert Cone, Fort Hood's commanding general.
11/06/2009 10:53 AM
Interesting takeaways: the TV media outlets are going nuts trying to blame this on anything other than Jihadi tendencies. My favorite: he went nuts because someone called him a camel jockey. Right.
The best coverage so far has been from NPR, who seemingly hasn't gotten the memo that this guy's wahabi martyr fantasies are supposed to be a secret.
The Army, I think, has some explaining to do - how could an obvious security risk like this guy not be investigated? His superiors, who must have known he had a screw loose, need to face the music.
11/06/2009 12:57 PM

11/06/2009 2:39 PM
A post earlier had a link suggesting that NBC was reporting that the President had somehow been inappropriately cavalier when reacting to the shootings.
First, the link that was posted is to an NBC site, but its not news, its an editorial by a right wing blogger. You can follow the links off the byline to his blog. No problem with that, but given the author's point of view the content of the criticism has to be taken with a grain of salt.
Second, there is no video of the cavalier remarks on the editorial. To be fair I only spent about 5 minutes searching, so feel free to post another version, but here is what I found:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/11/05/obama-fort-hood-shootings-horrific/
I suspect this is a truncated version of what the other poster is referring to (you can see a flag which is probably associated with the Tribal Nations Conference in the background). Though I admit the initial remarks are missing, I'm really not sure what the basis for criticism of the content related to the shooting. If you think I'm wrong and have a full version to post, have at it. Otherwise lets not distract from the issues at hand by taking political hackjob shots.
11/06/2009 3:43 PM
Allright, please forgive the last. Two extra minutes of searching revealed a full version:

The posted has a point, but it hardly suggests the commander in chief doesn't care about anyones sacrifices.

Any one who claims that Islam is intolerant doesn't know their history. When we christians were killing jews in Spain, the Islam portions of Spain and North Africa were harboring those persecuted. During the Middle Ages, it was Islam that saved the Greek and Roman cultures so that the crusaders could "rediscover" it and bring it back to Western Europe. I agree that there are persons who are making wild claims that have convinced some Muslems that killing the infidel will lead to heaven but, just like the Bible, you can justify almost anything in the Quran through selective quoting. Let us not throw out the baby with the bath water and give up the great American trait of tolerance to all.
11/06/2009 3:50 PM
Yet, another domestic terrorist ploy quelled. I'm sorry as all hell these soldiers were killed in this bullshit ambush. I'm just glad our sister services are able to defend themselves to some extent.
Personally, I hope Congress votes and Obama then decorates Police SGT.Munley with the MOH. She would be the 2nd female to receive the award. Mary Walker after our Civil war was the first, and she was a civilian Surgeon. It's obvious SGT Munley kept further Army personnel from being attacked when she popped off her four shots. Throughout the duration, She herself, was wounded as well in the course of fire. Tell me she doesn't deserve the medal.
The Army had better be kissing her ass for the rest of the Sergeant's life!

So I got the visit on this last Tues Nov 3.
Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan said 1000 times worst things than I did and the FBI picked it up from him 6 months ago. Mine turned into a official investigation, who knows how much prying went on behind the scenes on me, while Hanson didn’t turn into a investigation until after the massacre?

Comparing someone who wants to pray and love you onto the path to Heaven and someone who wants to blow your ass into 500 pieces is what I'd call apples and oranges.
Tolerating people who want to be here and contribute to a mutually beneficial society is one thing; Tolerating someone who seeks to remake this nation into some third-world haji shithole whether you like it or not is quite another.
And just to head off the evil Christian Crusader remarks sure to come, the Quran preaches constant violence, the Bible teaches a time and a place for war and vengenance is reserved for God himself. Again, apples and oranges.
11/06/2009 7:54 PM
I love how people always pull out the Christian Crusader argument while justifying Islamic extremism. The difference is that we as a culture have progressed past those dark times and now see the impact and hypocrisy of those actions. If you can come up with a recent event where Christians slaughtered innocent people while praising God's name, certain they were doing his work, then good on you. Now try to make that same list for the Muslims. Much easier. But oh, it's okay, Christians did it centuries ago too.
11/06/2009 8:27 PM
Harkonnen: just go suck your bigoted skimmer thumb someplace else, and take your apples and oranges with you.
You're up against substantially more intelligent people here than you're used to, so just blow off.

Calling someone a "bigot" or a "racist" when they make valid and logical arguments about why certain people should be profiled emphasizes that, while you may think yourself "substantially more intelligent," you're a pretty dim bulb.

I have served with some of the most amazingly gifted individuals in and around my age group. I made ET1 (SU) in Spring of '08, then completed the STA-21 program and pinned on O1-E in Summer of the same year.
Some that I have served with were of Jewish descent, some were Evangelical Christians. Others were Muslims, and still others were proud Atheists.
Bottom Line: I can't care less about the religious upbringing of the man to my right or my left - if I can trust him to pull me out of a burning space, he's on my team, and my wife will be glad for me to have him on board.
The submarine force has a long history of tolerance, because we all have our skin in the game. I hope we can take a collective 10 count and relax before dropping the blame on an entire group of people.
My heart aches for my fallen fellow service members; I'm back home in TX on leave, which makes it even more difficult.
I know it was an Army Post, but I think we can all wish them fair winds and following seas.

The more & more news about the O-4 perp that comes out just makes me wonder why the heck his CoC didn't step in a long time ago. Who is going to be held accountable for letting this guy slip through - it just doesn't pass the common sense test.
My prayers are with the wounded Soldiers & the families of those slain by this awful tragedy.

"How catholic soldiers were treated in the army back then? Ever hear of the San Patricios?"
Funny you should mention the San Patricios (if you haven't heard of them, check out the movie "One Man's Hero")...that's the word on how my grandpa Garcia got all that Irish in his blood.
I found out yesterday while this dirtbag Hasan did go to my alma mater, he wasn't a member of our Corps of Cadets or Army ROTC. I guess he put on the uniform at that medical school they have in Bethesda. Word on the street is that his supervisors noted that he needed "special attention" back in the day...so I am wondering where the Army dropped the ball of this one. Let the fact finding begin...
While I don't think anyone has called me out for volunteering for this man's firing squad, I want to make clear that I am no bigot. I believe in equal opportunity punishement. It doesn't matter if this nut screamed "Allah Akbar!" or "Go Hokies!" His punishment is the same...a speedy execution. One of my liberal friends asked "how can you say such a thing as you want to see him die if he is crippled now? The death penalty doesn't stop murder."
My response: This dirtbag was a sworn defender of the innnocent and our country. He was supposed to be trusted; instead, he kills those he should have helped to include on pregnant woman. It must be made clear to all those in uniform. Do this, and you will be put down faster than a rabid dog, wheelchair or not (and due process permitting).
I guess you could say my liberal friend couldn't understand. I told him "put on uniform, then you will understand."
Now my question is does our Commander in Chief have the intestinal fortitude to make this example happen? (All military death orders require his approval if I am not mistaken)
11/07/2009 9:50 AM
Nahhh. Patch the guy up and put him in jail. Trust me on this one.

Well yea, a number of us are shifting around from the scenario of high levels of the government are trying to silence and intimidate me surrounding domestic nuclear power issues. I am increasingly thinking elements of the Justice Department and the FBI Terrorism Task Force have come to me as a “cry for help”. Maybe even a intention to rile me up for this.
Everyone knows I will stick a searchlight so far up their asses their eyes will turn into headlights!
My intension is to remind people that we are beng watched on the internet, they got amazing search capabilities...personally I think it is a good thing and I don't at all mind them intruding into my own life.

Yeah, I see what you're saying Chief. I went back and reread the criteria for one to receive the MOH. At first I was thinking that since we've presented the medal to other civilians in the past, well maybe this case wouldn't be any different.
I didn't know there was a civilian version of this award too. I'm all about people being recognized and then appropriately decorated when their past actions call for it.
So I hope the Sergeant gets it. Other than that, I just hope and pray for all the wounded soldiers and I feel horrible for the families who lost a loved one that day.
As for this next thought, I probably shouldn't approach it, but hey, I'm going to anyway...
I don't want Hasan put to death. Lethal injection would be an easy out for him. I want Hasan to do life at Leavenworth D.B. in permanent lockdown solitary. No TV, No books or magazines, no going to the weight room, no working parties or jobs within the prison. No interaction with other people either or being allowed out in the prison yard to see daylight and breath fresh air. I'm sure Leavenworth D.B. has an inside Gymnasium, he can use that one hour a day for exercise. Otherwise keep him on 23hour a day lock down.
Yeah I want that fucker to suffer. I'm not talking about mid-evil torture or beatings or any other stupid crap. I want him to reflect on the horrible carnage he purposely caused. How many families and fellow service members did he hurt? I want Hasan to think about it everyday, every minute he is awake for the rest of his natural life.
Although he was not a serving line officer, he was still in a leadership position with considerable responsibilities to listen to, advise and guide younger officers, NCOs and junior soldiers when they might have needed therapy and guidance from a Doctor. Hasan, completely trampled on that trust and faith he was charged with as an officer and leader. Plus he is professionally educated, that's another reason that makes this whole shitty mess such a fucking surprise.
I hope the families get front row seats in the court room when that fucker is charged and tried. Hopefully, their eyes, facial expressions and potential comments of hate and remorse will be burned in Hasan's subconscious for the rest of his life.
I just don't understand how anyone could be capable of all this.

I think it's clear that the major was mentally ill.
It's hard to believe that nobody stepped in to direct him to the help he needed.
Not sure it's got anything to do with national origen, religion, politics, or abortion.
11/07/2009 5:34 PM
What makes you think Hansan is alive?
Remember Jessica Lynch and our rush to judgment...our insatiable need for hero worship in times of stress and embarrassment.
The general theme for the media outlets in America is we quickly becomes tired with depressing news, the media outlets needs the essence of hero worship after a national catastrophe. It limits the damage to those in high places.
Many people can’t make sense out of a catastrophe, especially when extraordinary good people lives are taken from them, we compensate by the need to find any scrap of hero worship.
For some reasons, male organizations have the need to elevate their female members into heroic unsustainable levels during a crisis.
I am just saying we got to be very careful with making a rush to judgment. There are accuracy issues with the reporting of this.
11/07/2009 5:52 PM
Yeah, what ever Mulligan, Shut up Mulligan, fuck you, Mulligan. You would know the difference between your ass and a pot hole in the road Mulligan. Now shut the fuck up!!!!
You're comparing Jessica Lynch to this murderous dipshit Husan? Are you kidding??!! The only possibility that they have in common is that they are both from the same service. That's it.
Mulligan, you're just unbelievably fucked beyond oblivion aren't you?
Now Please piss off you peabrained pond scum from the other side of hell!
11/07/2009 6:43 PM
Mulligan is the biggest single reason to support abortion.
11/07/2009 6:48 PM
I'm actually pro choice, but the likes of Mulligan makes me have 2nd thoughts in that arena. I can't give you a lot of argument on that one.
11/07/2009 6:54 PM
No SGT Munley and Jessica Lynch, there is nothing more disrespectful to person who is heading into harms way for the good of us all, than to exaggerate and distort their actions in combat. I am just saying there are commercial and bureaucratic motivations with some peoples interpretation with what happened over this.
All I am saying is altruism in general, in the name of our families and in the name of our country, feeding the poor, in the name and honor of my unit or group, perceived altruism turns off our processing capabilities in our heads. On high consequence events going altruistic is very dangerous. It easily becomes a group contagion. Going altruistic and go heroic, it changes our reality and distorts our perceptions. It is extremely addictive.
11/08/2009 6:27 AM
Mulligan, why choose wordiness over clarity?
11/08/2009 7:41 AM
Cause clarity is a illusion.

At Widgethead,
While I too would like to see him suffer, one of the things that makes our nation great is that traditionally we take swift resolution to our problems.
We as a whole are better than the need to make ourselves feel better by providing what many would call cruel and unusual. Our people are above that.
While at my heart I would like to see him suffer and have time to repent for the pain he has caused, I think the correct and swift action would be a speedy execution.
BUT, that's just my opinion.

In response to Napolitano's ridiculous attempt to appease muslims today:
Not all muslims are terrorists, but 99.99% of all terrorists are muslims.
And please note, one solitary person seeking to off a lone abortion provider does not a terrorist make.
11/08/2009 2:23 PM
Since 1993 make that 8 people killed by anti-abortion, authorized by god, domestic terrorists.
The facts will set you free or might relieve you of your ignorance if you had any interest in facts.
There is absolutely no way to prove that 99.9% of terrorists are muslim. That is just made up without any way to prove the validity of the claim

You make me sick. Go back to Daily Kos, liberal apologist.

8 victims vs how many from MUSLIM TERRORISTS? What I see is someone stretching to avoid the obvious. Don't let simple matters like hard evidence, facts or common sense get in the way of helping you reach another illogical conclusion.
11/08/2009 6:54 PM
Maybe all you Muslim-phobics should band together and call your legislators...you can get the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America repealed, and then you can do whatever you want to anyone, based on religious preference.
In the America that was, the moral "high ground" was occupied by our country. Holding the moral high ground means you turn the other cheek....you give people the benefit of the doubt...you don't fire until fired upon....you live and let live. I think our WWII veterans could readily identify with what I am talking about here.
Someone who is a citizen of this country has the same rights and responsibilites and you and I have. We give them the benefit of the doubt, meaning we don't gun them down until they have done something deserving of being gunned down...and that includes belonging to a group that some hold in contempt. Our cities are full of gangs, and yet we don't indiscriminantly arrest or detain members of those gangs because to do so without cause would be a violation of their rights.
I don't consider this a liberal viewpont...I consider this an American viewpoint. It's common sense, really. It's not about being "politically correct", it's about treating your fellow citizens with the same respect that you yourself deserve, that which is guaranteed by the foundations of our coutry, paid for with the blood of our country's founders, which may or may not include direct descendants of any or all of us. Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't make them a bad American....the fact that they are able to voice their opinion is what this country is all about.
With the system we have, there will always be terrorists...whether they be domestic or foreign...all we can do is do our best to catch them and prevent them from carrying out violence against our fellow citizens. And when we don't catch them until after it is too late, all we can then do is try to learn from our mistakes and modify our response, within the confines of the principles the founders of this country set forth and paid for with their lives.

In your endeavor to appear open-minded, you've completely missed the forest for the tress. This guy exhibited on MULTIPLE OCCASIONS ample reasons to make him suspect and quite possibly boot him from service. Several classmates, co-workers and superiors reported as much, but it fell on deaf ears. Why did it fall on deaf ears? Because of a ridiculous standard of not wanting to even appear to "offend" a member of a politically correct protected class. Result: 13 dead, 30 wounded.
I'm all for live and let live, but when the other guy tells me that he doesn't want to let me live, I'll be sleeping with one eye open and weapon at the ready. If that makes me a fool, then I'll survive as a fool.

Anon @ 7:21PM and ALCON,
What makes you think our legislators follow the Constitution in the first place? Seriously, and I quote one Jim Clyburn (D) of South Carolina:
“There’s nothing in the Constitution that says that the federal government has anything to do with most of the stuff we do.”
Wait...it's called Article 1, Section 8...the "enumerated powers" clause. That clause tells you (Congress) the ONLY things you can do.
So Anon, no one in Congress is going to bother repealing something they stopped following around say 1900 (that being the whole Constitution, not just the 1st Amendment). We are all in the same boat, up the same creek, without the same paddles.
I, for one, don't want crazies or cold blooded, methodical killers in the boat with me...

No, I don't think I have. As regards Major Nutball Terrorist, I agree with you completely. I just disagree with any "broad brush" statement about what we should do to some group of people based on the actions of a minority subsection of that group. This dude should certainly have been taken care of by the Army, one way or the other.
Also, I'm not trying to "appear open-minded"...I am open-minded, there is certainly a point where that stops but I believe that for the most part, people just want to live their lives, the same way I just want to live mine.
I'm a nuke....so any time a person says to me something like "Every xxx is a xxx", I automatically flag that person as an idiot, because he's just said something idiotic, because 99% of the time it's just not true, and that person is coloring their logic with bias.
We (as a country) certainly should act on warning signs, red flags, what have you. But let's apply the rules of deadly force (along with some common sense) before we go gunning down people just because they are wearing "traditional arabic garb" at the supermarket.
11/09/2009 6:23 AM
Think about it, 6 months ago I made a tip to the FBI’s e-mail tip line....I’d seen a person with a high power telescope staring at a nuclear power plant. A FBI agent called back within half an hour, of course in the e-mail I give him my real name and telephone number. When these FBI Terrorism Task Force special agents visited me last I week, I asked them what do you think of me talking to a FBI special agent six months ago? They told me they have no knowledge of that. I felt it was atrocious their superficial search of who mike mulligan is.
I am telling you, I know how dysfunctional organizations work?

Did you flag yourself as an idiot for violating your own absolute as quoted above?
BTW, I was a nuke too, but what does that have to do with anything? I assume you use that to mean that you consider yourself to be a little smarter than the rest of us.
11/09/2009 9:49 AM
{I assume you use that to mean that you consider yourself to be a little smarter than the rest of us.}
That means this blog is a little like Lake Woebegon - everyone is above average.
In all seriousness, there's a fine line between tolerance of religious difference and turning a blind eye to activities that are not compatible with the service in the military, or in fact, the privilege to live in this country. In the case of Hasan, that line was in the wrong place, by a country mile.
Why? some of it was because he's a Muslim. Sorry, but thats the truth. Some of it was because he was a doctor, and had an unfulfilled service obligation. I give it 50/50 - the military is extremely hard up for docs and always has been.
That being said, the overweening political correctness that emanates from flag and general officers needs a rest. Between the "diversity" escapades and stuff like this, we need to refocus on being color blind, not on quotas, differing standards, "get out of jail free cards", or other foolishness.
11/09/2009 12:35 PM

If this Army major is a terrorist because he is a muslim then the god inspired murderers of abortion providers are terrorists. That is just applying the same reasoning you anti-muslim bigots are displaying. If you are going to paint with your braod stereotype brush at least be consistent

Actually, I'm still a nuke, but now I deal with real reactors, not tinker toy working models. And no, I read it correctly - you violated your own absolute meaning you should be flagged, according to your standards, for being an idiot.

You're both acting kind of like children. Doubtful that either of you are idiots.
As far as the post goes, I haven't heard anything about this in a couple days. Did the guy come out of ICU, and did he say anything yet?
11/09/2009 2:19 PM
AP posted update about two hours ago. He's not talking yet, but the rest of the update is alarming. Seems like he gave a presentation during a MILITARY class justifying suicide bombings and stating that islamic law trumped the US Constitution. Fellow officers complained. Nothing done.

"Seems like he gave a presentation during a MILITARY class justifying suicide bombings and stating that islamic law trumped the US Constitution. Fellow officers complained. Nothing done".......

Ah the trick of always changing direction.
I have responding to impugning all muslims in the military for the actions of a few. But go ahead distort whatever you want to make yourself fell all puffed up and justified...facts and rationale argument are things you want no part of.
I am sure you are aware of the flag officers that have used the christian bible to support our actions in Iraq.
Using any religion or any part of religion to justify murder is wrong....NO MATTER WHAT RELIGION but that doesn't stop religious extremists of all faiths from jsutifying murder.
11/09/2009 4:22 PM
"Careful, you're using a broad stereotype brush. Fellow officers were just biased."
Fellow officers were just biased? I would hope they would be outraged than anyone wearing the uniform would place a religion above the US Constitution, whether it be Christian or Muslim. Nothing is higher than the US Constitution...to put anything superior to it would demean it to no end.
And I bet you would think I am biased if I think the UN is a crock too? We'll let anyone take the oath these days.
11/09/2009 6:20 PM
I really don't care what religion he is. That is completely beside the point.
He's able to think and speak once again in the initial stages of his recovery. I can't wait to see what he has to say in first stages of discovery. I hope we learn something as to what made a screwball like this one go completely nuts.
Another reason I don't want this murderous jackass put to death is because this time, we actually caught one alive and kicking. He's educated as well. Additionally, I want to hear what Hasan has to say behind his motivations of this cowardly ambush and unprovoked killings.
Gents, Don't blame religion. Let's just stand by this week and see what this fucker has to say to CID, FBI and all the other investigating acronyms at the federal level.
I hope this time we learn a few things. Something tells me the rest of this week is going to be an interesting one for sure.
11/09/2009 7:33 PM
I was just summarizing the points made in the AP article, and I don't have any bias on this guy. I'm not saying the story is true or unbiased, either. I just pointed out that it was there, and tried to give a bit of a summary. Read the dang story yourself before you bash me!
11/09/2009 9:06 PM
I'd be interested in the names of flag officers who justified actions in Iraq on religious grounds. Dates and quotations, please.

From the AP article "Investigators: Military to charge Ft. Hood suspect":
"Nidal Hassan is a hero," wrote Awlaki, who lives in Yemen. "He is a man of conscience who could not bear living the contradiction of being a Muslim and serving in an army that is fighting against his own people."
I don't know if you guys have read this article yet, but Nidal's old "spirital leader" apparently thinks this man is a hero, and I am wondering just how many more feel the same way. If this man doesn't receive the death penalty out of more "political correctness" fear, I may just submit my resignation letter. Those "two monkeys f-ing a football" known as the US Army are clueless, and I won't let their incompetence endanger my life.

Da chickuns be a comin home ta roost - for BO, that is.
From:
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/6712102.html
"Several U.S. officials said U.S. intelligence agencies first intercepted communications between Hasan and Awlaki starting in late 2008 as a result of another investigation, and that the information was given to one U.S.-based multi-agency Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTFF) and then to another one based at the Washington Field Office because of Hasan’s assignment at the Walter Reed medical center.
With that knowledge, there will be a full out onslaught to ensure that this is never, under any circumstances, classified as a terrorist attack. Otherwise, Obozo has already allowed a terrorist attack on US soil after less than 10 months in office. We'll see it all: whack job, cracked under pressure, on meds, felt personally wronged, etc.
But the fact remains: Not all muslims are terrorists, but 99.99% of all terrorists are muslims.
11/10/2009 3:51 PM
"How is resigning to become a civilian going to make you more safe? Unless you are about to go on an IA or GSA, Submarine Sailor involvement in Army matters is minimal at best."
Well, first of all some bright minds in Congress have decided that officers (and probably senior enlisted before too long) will have to do joint tours to advance up the ranks. Not that I want to be some ADM one day...but I still have to play the game until it's no longer fun.
Second, if the Army can let something like this happen, how long will it be before this happens somewhere else? After all, it's supposed to be the Navy shrinks that keep those unstable individuals off our submarines...not saying all are nuts, but this one shrink was. So far our shrinks are just easily fooled by some trying to dodge their sworn obligations. Gotta love prior to deployment / shipyard "brain pain."
Finally, and most importantly, I guess I would have a general problem with continuing to serve if our Commander and Chief lets this guy off the "death penalty" hook. In all the discussions I have had with retired officers and enlisted, our military has become something of the likes that would sicken Mush Morton and Douglas MacArthur. And God help us if George Patton walked around with his pistol today (of course he probably would have shot this Nidal when his whinning got out of hand)! Allowing this guy to live after what he did...goes against everything I believe.
I may not agree with Obama on many things, yet I have continued to carry out my orders...despite the attempts to make veterans pay for their own war injuries...despite his lack of action on Afghanistan...despite the fact many of his supporters have said all kinds of nasty things about people like me (still wondering how I killed babies at NNSY).
These things all come with the job. But when someone like this Nidal gets off after doing something like this, what does that say to those that continue to serve valiantly? That it's ok to blow away your brothers and sisters in arms (and civilians) and be allowed to live? No. I won't stick around for that. I don't feel like having to look over my sholder wondering what servicemember is seconds away from depriving my three children of their father.
At some point...like at the Alamo...you have to draw a line in the sand. I cannot continue to do a job I do not feel comfortable with. I will do what is right and resign my commission. That's what this Nidal character should have done, instead of shooting 30 and killing 14 (yes...I said 14. That includes the unborn child that dies with its mother).
I await to see where this case goes.
11/10/2009 5:38 PM

"Did anyone look at the Powerpoint? It's on the Wash Post website."
Yes.
1) Just on improper word usage alone, anyone with higher than a junior high education should be embarrassed.
2) Starts off nicely, then quickly enters into proselytizing. Had a Christian attempted the same, it would have been all over the nightly news and the guy drummed out. If you doubt it, check out Klingenschmitt who was drummed out for doing what chaplains are paid to do.
3) Once the proselytizing was complete, the "woe unto you" section began where Hasan explained using verse after verse how abrogation directs mulims in the U.S. military to fight the infidel - US.
11/10/2009 7:13 PM
The problem with a Christian doing that is that the Bible doesn't support vengeance: neither does it advocate "Holy War". Old Testement much moreso, but Christian implies New Testement, and it's pretty clear about love your neighbor.
Don't forget the part where the guy said that there was no separation of church and state for a moslem. I'd like to hear how mainstream Islam reconciles that part of the Koran with life in the US.
11/11/2009 6:30 AM

At Fort Hood, Witness Credits Second Officer
By JAMES C. McKINLEY Jr.
The confusion over what happened and the quickness of the military to label someone a hero seemed reminiscent of the case of Pfc. Jessica Lynch in 2003, when the Army initially reported Private Lynch had been captured in Iraq after a Rambo-like performance in which she emptied her weapon and was wounded in battle. It was later learned she had been badly hurt in a vehicle accident during an ambush and was being well cared for by the Iraqis.

Now quiet down little mister, or you will be punished in public for all to see My young Sir.

Shockingly people are coming around to my crazy way of thinking:
"Man, we had a humongous domestic anti terrorism failure. We rank right up there with Pakistan having secret terrorist camps within the USA, with our people going out on a world wide bases and creating many world terroristic 9/11s. The Al Qaeda master terrorist hub just might be the USA? What has happened for India is, it would be like if we discovered our 9/11...their Mumbai or 26/11...was hatched in India. This failure is way bigger than Fort Hood and involves the same ingredients.
The Fort Hood Congressional investigation should morph into investigating the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force failure to catch the Mumbai massacre emanating within our USA terrorist camps...limiting the investigation into the Fort Hood massacre is effectively a cover-up...cause it should ask the boarder question of, has our counter terrorism capabilities been compromised."
Good help us all of if there are any connections between Nidal Malik Hasan and Chicago's David Headley...there seems to be a Pakistan connection? That would get us to a full scale 9/11 congressional and presidential blue ribbon commission investigation on our current terrorism failures. We might be there already. It would just be like NASA's Challenger and Columbia tragedies.
