SUBPAC announced today that the final resting place of USS Flier (SS 250) has been located and verified. Flier was sunk by a mine in the Philippines in August 1944; eight of 86 crew members survived the sinking to be rescued later that month. Hopefully this news can provide comfort to the families of the Submariners lost on this boat.

Nice for the families to have closure and the article with the Nimitz quote was well done.

1. She sank in "shallow water".
2. The place she sank was close enough to land that survivors swam ashore. (So the location should have been pretty easy to pinpoint)
...and is STILL took 65 years to find her?

underwater is out of sight. And I suspect the GPS coordinates for the sunken ship were probably not high on the list to carry ashore. Jeez.

My Grandmother's Brother perished on the Flier. She is having her 93rd birthday in March and this story was good to pass on to her.

I'm stationed near the site. Since 2007, i've been interested in locating the Flier. Great job and finally she has been found! Any move to place markers in memory for the galant crew?

My uncle Sonny,, Thomas Bohn lost his short life on that sub,, RIP uncle Sonny I am so glad they found it and we can have some closer
