Happy Birthday, U.S. Submarine Force!

Today marks the 106th birthday of the U.S. Sub Force. On April 11, 1900, the U.S. Navy purchased USS Holland (SS 1) from John P. Holland. As with many anniversaries, this day is marked with both celebration and remembrance.

While we're celebrating our 106th birthday this year, the Russians are celebrating their submarine centennial; the International Submariners Meeting will be held in St. Petersburg in May as part of the festivities. While their web site might not be as impressive as the one we had for our centennial, my guess is that the Russian Navy web site in English is better than the U.S. Navy website in Russian.

Happy Birthday, Submariners! Submarines once, submarines twice...
