Memorial Day 2008

On this day that we honor fallen heroes, let us recommit to remembering the sacrifices of the Submariners still on patrol -- a good place to read about them and reflect on their service is at the ComSubPac website. Here's a listing of the 52 boats lost during WWII, and here's where we can read about Submariners lost on other boats.

To all those who have given all for our freedom -- Thank You.

Your "Other Submariners Lost" link needs to be updated; we've lost another more recently:

Was there a holiday today? You wouldn't know it by looking at Google's home page.

If this offends you as it did me, feel free to send them your remarks. I somehow find it more than a bit difficult to believe that they haven't done this on purpose.

They enjoy the hard-left politics that they do because of the extreme sacrifices of American servicemen and women. Don't be afraid to take them to task for deliberatly ignoring that mighty fact.

I too am offended. When my thin-skinned faux patriotism is not validated by the Google homepage I'm left angry and frustrated.

On Memorial Day we honor the fallen, whether they are heroic or not.

Maybe they didn't volunteer. Maybe they didn't believe in the cause. Maybe they kept their head down or even ran away.

They died. That's more than you did, or I. They deserve one day.

WTF, over?

I didn't recall anything special on Google's homepage for Memorial Day so I had to look this up. Turns out a lot of people are pissed that Google didn't put up some kitschy sketch to show off their logo.

What do we do on Memorial Day (besides drink beer and barbeque)? We shut up. We pick a moment, not necessarily at the same time, of silence. We do this not only to remember, but because this is a time to remember something so atrocious that affects us all and words just don't do it.

Freedom of speech includes freedom from speech.
