Super Secret Tube Daze Video

Here's a link to a Tube Daze episode commissioned by the crew of USS Alabama for a recent underway. See it now before it gets pulled from YouTube. Bad word warning!

Very good!

If this humorous YouTube episode was actually made by "the crew of USS Alabama", we should hope that the ship's motto "Audemus Jura Nostra Defendere" extends to the careers of the CO, XO and COB under whom this politically incorrect (smoking and diesel fumes, a$$ f*** the crew, etc.) was countenanced.

As Capt Honors's example proved recently, being a ring knocker conveys little immunity from today's P.C. nazis in D.C.

Not only does the blogger not know shit about a GE BWR, but the posters know even less.

"Re: Japan.

The reactors melted down and released radioactive contamination to the environment and continue to do so. Many thousands of people have been directly impacted and will continue to suffer losses for a very long time.

The media has moved along to Royal wedding coverage and the invite list. Time for you to do the same.

I'd pay to watch a fully dubbed-over version of Crimson Tide. That was the worst sub movie script ever written and this clip demonstrated vast improvement.

I don't want to give up on trying to understand the Japan reactor incident. This blog was very informative about the first stages of the crisis; I'd like to see more.

So since it makes the air bad no smoking, so no more diesel fumes, painting, or non-showering nukes underway?

As a former EM, I resent that comment. Once while off watch I was standing in AMR2UL and overheard the ELT in AMR2LL report he "thought" he had high chlorides. I RAN forward, grabbed my kit and dove into the shower. When I emerged, you guessed it, Showers Secured signs were posted. Man that was a great shower.

'Man, I hope I never get sick on this boat.'

Classic!

And surely the oil sheen in your coffee and the amine in your clothes (and lungs) is not as harmful as what remains of smoke when it finally gets through all the precipitators.

Surely.

As much as I hate to be "that guy", the opposite logic also applies to smoking: Just because amines, oil, and diesel fumes are already in the air doesn't mean the smokers needs to make it even worse on top of that.

What happened to keeping exposure to harmful shit ALARA?

"What happened to keeping exposure to harmful shit ALARA?"

The theme is obviously protection of female health. The point is that if smoking was judged that harmful, why is diesel fume being waived by the same brass?

We all await your profound and factual, scientific (versus PC) answer.

@Vigilis - The video was not made by the crew of the Alabama. As I stated, it was commissioned by them (much as one commissions a painting); the guy who makes all the Tube Daze videos actually made it.

No worries Joel. Just another post where Vigilis demonstrates he is an idiot.

@Rex: Maybe because smoking is not essential to reactor safety or safety of ship, while having an installed alternate means of propulsion and electrical power generation capability is? We sure as shit don't have amine there because of its pleasant aroma: It actually has a purpose in the survivability of the ship (or rather, her crew), something which cannot be claimed for cigarettes.

BH, interesting use of the word.
Commissioning most paintings (even copies of masterpieces) violates neither laws nor military regs.

Commissioning an act that violates laws or regs may make the "commissioning" parties culpable as either "accessories" or masterminds.

In this case, it is pretty clear the crew had nothing at all to do with the video. As I said, very good! Thanks for confirming.

Amazingly enough, during my 3+ years as a member of Alabama Blue we only watched this movie twice under way. Although I do have to admit it was pretty much mocked and quoted continually and universally considered one of (if not the) worse submarine movie ever.

In particular we definitely spent a lot of time discussing how they how had flooding in maneuvering.

@ Former EM1

The worst submarine movie ever also has a connection to USS Alabama, and it was not "Crimson Tide". It was made 2 years later, the one most of us never watched.

While I admit smoking itself is not vital to the powerplant or any other mechanical system. I think the slight stress relief it provides is very valuable to the crew. I arrived a non-smoker and left an occasional smoker, the only place I ever smelled smoke was the smoke pit and after a tough watch making a beeline to the engineroom did help out a lot.

Considering how many of the people who post here work in the commercial nuclear industry (including yours truly) and who either currently work or have worked at GE Type I BWRs (including yours truly), you might want to reconsider that statement.

Oh, and as far as the Tube Daze movie clip goes--on par with Down Periscope..."Don't go by the book. Think like a pirate. I want a man with a tattoo on his dick. Have I got the right man?"

"By a strange coincidence, you do, sir."

As a former SRO on such a plant, I'm qualified to make that statement. BUT, I think we have a misunderstanding - I was referring to the blogger and posters at the linked site - not here.

Apology accepted. Oh wait, I forgot. We NEVER apologize. We just give each other a bit less crap for a little while...LOL. Got it.

But yeah, it's still amazing the GCE's that exist between Naval and commercial nuclear power plants.
