USS Bonefish Fire Anniversary

Chaotic Synaptic Activity has an excellent post on the Bonefish fire and the ships that came to her aid 19 years ago today that's well worth a read.

On May 21, 2002 most of the crew of the USS DOLPHIN was thinking about the 1988 incident on board the Bonefish. After all, now we were taking on sea water and multiple fires were lighting up in all parts of the boat. We got lucky and did not have sea water go into the battery well. If it did, it would of been "Bonefish" all over again.Sea water mixed with high voltage creates a deadly gas and worst off, we ran out of EAB air after 1.5 hours. It was one of the reasons why we all needed to get off and just shut the hatch. You could hear people saying the word Bonefish, including the officers throught the ordeal. I was sure glad we did not lose anyone, but we cannot understand how we all survied. One guy got out of a pool of water just seconds after a arch of electricity went through that same body of water.
