We Shoot... We Score

I've never been to a really big sporting event live; however, that will change next month. We just received our tickets to the 1st and 2nd round games of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament that will be held in Boise March 20-22:

[Edit 2305 15 Feb: Redacted photo of tickets due to concerns mentioned in the comments that someone could copy them and render our ticket invalid.]

I'm way psyched; in my opinion, March Madness is the best annual sporting tournament in the world. In order to get the right to buy these tickets (for $61 for each person for each session, plus fees) we had to buy season tickets for last season's BSU Men's BB season. It was totally worth it.

What's the biggest sporting event you've ever attended live?

The Masters golf tournament. I believe it's one of the toughest events to get to without breaking the bank. Fortunately my grandparents have gotten tickets since before it became so sought after. May not have the opportunity again unfortunately.

But getting tix to the first 2 rounds of march madness is pretty nice. I think those first two days are the most exciting days in sports.

From personal experience, redact the photograph with the bar codes. It can make your tickets invalid if someone copies the code, and enters before you.

For me, 1997 World Series (Marlins), 1998 World Series (Yankees), 2002 World Series (Giants), 2003 Nevada/Boise State football, 2003 Nevada/Gonzaga (2nd Round), 2003 Nevada/Georgia Tech (Sweet 16), 2005 Florida/Florida State Football, 2006 Cal/USC football, 2007 UCLA/Memphis (Elite 8).

Getting a girlfriend has pretty much ended most of my more fun trips around the contry for sporting events!

Have fun at the tournament. And cheer on Nevada if they end up in Boise!

Super Bowl XXVIII in 1994, NCAA Regionals in Rupp Arena in 1996, ACC Basketball Tournament in 2003, Duke-UNC in Cameron 2008/2009. The joys of having shore duty allow one to take in good sporting events.

World Cup 2006, Nuremburg Germany, USA vs Ghana. (That's soccer if you don't know) We lost, but kind of had the game taken from us by the ref.

I could throw the Champions League up there for best annual sporting event, but I imagine I would either get blank stares or things thrown at me.

NASCAR at Daytona International Speedway. 200,000 people, 38,000 hp going past you the space of two heartbeats, incredible energy the whole time. Great fans, lots of good fun.

Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks - every year since 1995.

...and they pay *ME* to go.

I work for Churchill Downs as a temporary employee for that week. Not only do they pay me, but I get a credential that allows me to go nearly anywhere on the track I want to go - including the racetrack itself.

I mostly work in the press box, but I sometimes watch the race from the rooftop.

It's a great time that I look forward to every year.

Other than going to Army-Navy, I'd have to say the 2000 Olympic Swimming Trials in Indianapolis. (Most of your readers won't find that at all interesting, but I enjoyed the meet.) I got to be down on deck watching the first American to break 15:00 in the 1500 free.

1995 World Series, Game 6. Braves win 1-0. Been to NFL Playoffs and IHL Playoffs and the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, but the NCAA Sweet 16 is just really awesome. I went back in 1986 and had a blast

198?? AFC Champ Game, Dan Fouts and the San Diego Chargers in San Diego vs the slimeball Oakland Raiders, featuring the cheater Ray Guy and his "stick-um". Chargers lost and the raiders beat the Eagles in the Super Bowl.

Also went to the Saturday round of the PGA at Southern Hills in Tulsa. I've seen Tiger at Torrey Pines lots of times, but to see him win a major was pretty special.
