USS Louisville DV Embark

Here's a video from the SUBPAC PAO about a recent Distinguished Visitor embark on USS Louisville (SSN 724):

I support bringing CEOs like this on board the boat for tours like this (especially since it involved a BSP on both ends, meaning the crew didn't have to get underway just for the dog-n-pony show) -- hopefully the CEOs will hire Submariners when they come looking for a job.

If it's a PR opportunity for the Navy and the Submarine Force, by all means do it. Certified good deal.

If it's a favor to a fellow flag, it's a bad idea and should be seriously questioned. Google Ehime Maru for the reason this is so.

Before we get into "why are we wasting our time on DV embarks" I'd just like to say - Well done to CDR Sisco and crew - the ship looks good and the DVs were clearly impressed!

What uniform is the guy on the left wearing? Looks like service utilities with ribbons? Where did they find that uniform?

I believe that was CDR Sager, not Sisco. Sager is an awesome CO, I had the pleasure of getting underway on LOUISVILLE for some testing, crew was top notch and a pleasure to deal with.

As for the DV tours and embarks, Pearl is much better to do it from than say, PCAN or Kings Bay, both suck for BSP's, especially when you go in and out for days at a time!

You're absolutely right - my apologies to CDR Sager - this must have been one of his last days underway before the change of command!

Wow.. that was theatrical.. They got the Chop to stand watch!

The Uniform is the new Utilities. Black and Tan.

Re: Black and Tan - Until I looked more closely, I wondered why a Marine was greeting the DVs. Was it better to look like a fireman or a bus driver (late 70's) than today's jarhead look? At least back then, no one mistook us for Marines. Or the Air Force. I kind of liked looking like a sailor...

Hah! Cool!

I got a tour of the Louisville back in 1993. Glad to see she is still alive and well.

Somehow I don't think the intent of the DV program is to get ex-JO's hired at leading public companies! Something perhaps more related to Rickover inspired politics.

Do we know which public companies are represented by these DVs?

I'd say that would be NNPI, especially to someone posting "anon".....

DV? Men for the most part never worked a day in day in their lives, and most certainly never risked life or limb. Yet they are DV's. Having their asses wiped and nads salivated upon by o-5 and above looking for a payday. What a friggin sham. Manja man ball festday!! Somethings never change. Smegma fest 2010...........

I've often wondered why we can give you a ride underway if you 'know somebody' or if you are 'somebody,' but there is no way to get the average Joe underway.

Chicago might take out the 721 club, but a group of civvies off the bus can't even get a tour, most likely.

Never understood it. If it is selling our force and what we do, that's fine, but we make our money doing things that are the subject of classified briefs and wargames, not by impressing a CEO for Widgit, Inc.

Ahh my old boat. It is nice to see my old CO, Captain Kirk (yes, I shit you not) was not in that video.

There should be a clip of the Louisville being pulled into Pearl on a Sunday so SUBPAC could chew his ass for violating water space management.

Weeeeeeeeeee!
