"See The World"
CDR Salamander posts a new Broadside cartoon each Sunday, and the "new" one (originally published in 2002) is about my favorite subject: submarines!
"Periscope liberty" was always nice, especially for the nukes who'd come into Control after realizing they hadn't seen the sun in over a month.

I remember a 90 somthing day cruse coming up in Holly Lock on a cloudy day and complaining how bright the Sun was.

Actually, this is probably more true during the Maneuvering Watch into Port Canaveral in the summertime. When the really large cabin cruisers and yachts go out the channel when you are coming in ---- with their topless cargo sunbathing. It draws a crowd on the scope. Disrupts the watch. But the XO always gets to look. And we learned to keep film in the camera.
