AS-28 On The Surface!

Breaking news that the trapped Russian mini-sub is on the surface. I'm hearing television reports that all seven submariners aboard are safe, but nothing on the 'net yet.

Staying at PD...

Update 2159 06 Aug: Now that we have confirmation from an American source that all crewmembers are alive, our thoughts turn towards the next vital issue: whether the damn Brits are going to let us live this one down. I can hear it now: "Blimey, you blokes could have done the job if your planes were a little faster, eh? Off for a nice spot of tea now..." Seriously, though, BZ to the Royal Navy team that made it happen, and to the Russian commander on the scene and his team for leading the successful effort. There will be vodka drunk in Petr' tonight!

Update 2242 06 Aug: Gateway Pundit has a good synopsis of events from throughout the day, all in one handy post.

Update 1759 07 Aug: More kudos for the Brits.

For those wishing to toast the rescuers and the rescued, an appropriate one is

Schast'ya i zdorov'ya!

(Happiness and Health)

Make sure you do it with Vodka. Then go get some OP Rum and Splice the Mainbrace for the Brits.

BRAVO ZULU to everyone involved, from the Russkis who didn't let misplaced considerations of National Pride get in the way of rescuing their own, through to the US and UK teams who had the equipment and got their collective asses into gear in doublequick time.

Zoe,
Good to hear from you! For some reason I remember something like "na zdorov'ya" from college Russian, but couldn't be sure...
