A Submariner's Dream...
The crew of USS Helena (SSN-725) got a chance to experience the sight that every submariner longs for the most. (Of course, the more jaded among us may claim that a submarine might get this display when they pull into any port they've ever been before, but that just isn't so... you submarine wives have nothing to worry about...)
Update 0517 23 Sep: Here's the story of Helena's homecoming. I'm sure they had a good time, but I'm thinking a port visit set of Yokosuka, Sasebo, Singapore, Guam, and Saipan isn't necessarily the best lineup I've ever seen...

I think the Navy needs new photo editors. This one's past jaded: he's plain old pessimistic. I wouldn't say they're waiting "anxiously" but "eagerly," unless there's some doubt as to whether the boat is going to make it the last few feet since the kids all gathered with their signs.
I wonder who made the balloon animals.

"Anxiously" may have been because the boat might have just finished an ORSE, so they don't know if they might not see their Dads (at least the ones who are nukes) for weeks if the boat failed.

Well sure, but wouldn't they have held off on the animal balloons unless they knew the old man was rolling in that day? Had a solid ETA nailed down?

Given the current paranoia about conduct ashore in C7F, I'm sure Yokosuka and Saesbo sucked as port visits. Singapore is never bad and Guam and Saipan are not so bad these days if you like golf. I played Golf in Guam last month and there are some good deals for military. Too bad they could not go to Otaru or Osaka.
