This Can't Be Good

"Explosion Destroys Dome of Shiite Shrine"

The famous Golden Dome of the al Askariya mosque in Samarra, Iraq, has been destroyed by terrorists. The mosque, sacred to Shi'ites, is held to be the burial place of the 10th and 11th Imans. Here's what the dome looked like before:

And here's what it looks like now:

Terrorists who intentionally destroy places of worship piss me off even more than do other terrorists...

Update 0144 22 Feb: The "progressives" at Democratic Underground, predictably, think that the CIA did it...

Attack on the shrine lends weight to speculation that Zarqawi has been laying low (now rumored to be trying to leave Iraq for Germany) creating a severe vacuum in al-Qaeda's central leadership.

As a result, well-armed cells will begin to take out historical vengeance on rival sects. Soon we will know more about Zarqawi, who though not a lawyer, is a serious vilain.

Personally after watching the islamic world systematically destroy every jewish shrine they can get their hands on this destruction made me laugh.

How many 10's of thousands of Jewish books, and places of worship have been destroyed over the years without a tear from the world...

How many MILLIONs of jews have been murdered with out a tear from the world..

So when this happens, it's like.... karma

We can only defeat Bin Ladenism allied with other Muslims. This should only strengthen our resolve and commitement to ally with these people.

From the Wash Post on Tall Afar, Iraq,

Even now, McMaster said, he understands that his success is "fragile." The city's mayor, Najim Abdullah Jabouri, is unhappy that McMaster and his unit are leaving Iraq this month. "A surgeon doesn't leave in the middle of the operation!" the mayor said intently to McMaster over a recent lunch of lamb kabobs and bread. He waved his finger under the colonel's nose. "The doctor should finish the job he started."

The DUers are totally off the rails. Why would the CIA want to destabilize Iraq even more than it already is and start up sectarian violence. It makes no sense, but that's what passes for intelligent thought over at DU these days.

It is time for us to spend a week or two inside the green zone and other secure fire bases.
The Shiites and Kurds represent 80+% of the population, and also a major part of the current Iraqi army. Let them discuss the problem with the Sunnis. The Sunnis have no chance. Never get in the middle of a gang war, just pick up the pieces when it is over.
Old Brooklyn NYC rule.
