Bringing Submarine Life Home From The Boat

No, this isn't a post listing the ways you can make your house seem more like a submarine (or even one listing the reasons why working at McDonald's is better than being a nuke) -- this is a post about how, if you act today, you can buy -- on E-Bay -- a piece of submarine memorabilia that will make your old boat friends curl up in a corner and go all fetal on you.

Here's what's being sold: 12 unrolled TDU cans, complete with lids and bottoms (TDU weights not included):

Bidding ends today, so you'll have to hurry. (Note that although the seller thought the cans are shot out of a boat's torpedo tubes, a commenter already set him straight about concept of the Trash Diposal Unit.)

Now you won't just have to tell your wife and kids about how you used to get your fingers all cut up rolling the cans -- you can show them!

Man... on all but ONE of my deployment halfway nights, I've ended up getting "voted" to pack-trash. Not sure what that says about what my guys think about me. The one time I didn't, it was only because I had JUST reported aboard at the last port call, so the crew didn't really know me yet. It was NOT a fun job, but each time I did my best to smile and do my part for the crew's amusement on halfway night.

Ummmm...didn't we just read a story about an LDO (aviation type) that's getting some hard time in "federal-pound-me-in-the-a$$ prison" for selling government property on ebay? I find it hard to believe that TDU cans would be commercially available. The story was in the Virginian-Pilot earlier this week.

Hey Blunoz, I'm afraid that usually means you're an ass. Don't take it hard; it happens. Sorry I had to be the one to tell you, but don't worry too much about it. There are plenty of un-asslike guys that can't get the job done. I don't want to encourage asslike behavior, but there are worse things.

As a Middie, I was on a boomer patrol and was leading the TDU voting the entire time, right up until the end, when out of nowhere the RCA (LTjg, former FTC) was AGAIN voted to smash trash. the crew and most JO's hated him. I ended up washing dishes with the crankiest nuke MM1 onboard. Blunoz must be an officer. Only an officer brings out that kind of vindictiveness from the crew.
By the way, the list of how to make your home a submarine had me in tears. As a former DCA, the blowing shit all over the yard reminds me of a story.......
