Bubblehead Reveals What Will Happen In 2008

I'm a little late getting to my "Predictions for 2008" post, and it's past my bedtime, so I'm kinda winging this one. We'll see how I do at the end of the year.

1) In carryovers from the last two years, we won't invade Iran, and President Bush and Vice President Cheney won't be impeached.

2) This article is wrong -- the nominees for the Presidential election have already been decided; all that's left is for the political trends already in evidence to play themselves out. In November, the Republican McCain-Thompson ticket will beat the Democratic Clinton-Evan Bayh pairing by 51-46% in the popular vote, and something like 296-242 in the Electoral College. In a replay of 2000, the Democrats will pick up seats in the Senate despite losing the Presidency.

3) A team from some conference other than the SEC will win the college football championship in January 2008, breaking a 2 year streak.

4) There will be fewer U.S. submarines making the news than in 2007, which is a Good Thing.

5) "Speed Racer" will be a surprisingly good movie.

If I come up with any more, I'll let you know. Feel free to share your predictions in the comments.

The Republican Party is a sick joke, and the people of this country are fed up with them.
From Nixon to Bush, and from Scooter to Larry "Toilet Stall" Craig, the Republicans have proven themselves to be a bunch of lying, corrupt, evil, perverted, over-spending crooks.
When you look at all the money Bill Clinton left this country, it makes us all cry to know that Bush spent it all.
When the money was gone, Bush went to China for help.
Just think, we owe money to China!
That is the Bush way.
Cheney is no better.
You can't trust either of them.
No one does.
Why are we in Iraq?
The war should be on terror, not in Iraq.
Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, and yet Bush has spent all that money to fight "his" war.
Yes his, because many Republicans have backed off from the war.
By the way, the war in Iraq has cost the U.S. almost five hundred billion dollars.
Forget Rudy.
Rudy Giuliani is no hero.
While he is often called the hero of 9/11, the truth is that Rudy was a terrible leader during his years as mayor of New York City.
He made bad decisions and took a girlfriend while being married.
In fact, he even wanted his lover to live in the same house with his wife.
Most people would call this perverted.
New Yorkers were so sick of his antics, that they wanted him out of office.
Then came 9/11.
The only reason people call Giuliani a hero today, is because he just happened to be NYC's mayor during that bad time.
Any mayor would be looked at as a hero if they showed their face under those circumstances.
If there was no 9/11, Rudy would have become a joke.
This is not the kind of leader we want in the White House. In closing, the New York Post reported in their paper on April 23, that Giuliani spent more than 48,000 dollars of campaign money on posh hotels while claiming to have spent the least of all the Republican candidates.
Rudy is a good time leader, and does it with other people's money.
Forget Mitt.
His ads look bad.
He can't seem to get his facts right, and will say things to make himself look good.
Red flags go up around him.
I spoke with his son Tagg at the New Hampshire debates back in June (2007), and while he seemed like a nice man, Tagg could not get his facts right either.
The worst Republican as of late, though, is Larry Craig.
He is a lying pervert who wanted gay sex with a strange man on a dirty toilet seat.
He pled guilty, then said he was not guilty.
Say what?
He is another Republican moron.
Did you hear about Washington State Republican Rep. Richard Curtis?
He offered $1,000 to a young man for unprotected sex while dressed in women's lingerie.
This sort of thing just goes on and on with them.
Remember Mark Foley?
Here is a letter I wrote that was in many newspapers and Web sites:

Once again, the Republicans have turned my stomach with shocking and repulsive behavior.
Mark Foley, a Republican member (now ex-member) of Congress, has sent many e-mails with perverted sexual content to a sixteen year old boy.
This is the same man who while in Congress, backed a bill that was meant to protect children from child predators.
Foley himself, is a man who preyed on a child with lust.
What is also incomprehensible, is the fact that some Republicans knew of Foley’s behavior, and yet, did not take a hard stand against this until it became public news. If I had a teenage son and/or daughter, I would not want them to go near any Republican leader for fear of either or both becoming a victim of a sick Republican pervert.

George Vreeland Hill

There were more than three hundred such letters in newspapers in 2007 alone.
Many of them in New Hampshire.
There are thousands on the Internet.
No lie.
THOUSANDS!
This does not even include articles, ads, radio, TV and other areas where the public takes notice.
In fact, one Republican in California wanted me stopped once, because I was hurting some Republicans in their elections.
I just want to do my part in helping to get rid of every Republican scumbag.
From phone scams to the Union Leader (NH) covering up for Republicans, the garbage never ends.
But the Republican Party will end.
Did you know that George W. Bush once made fun of the issue of Weapons of Mass Destruction?
He did, and in front of some shocked people during a black-tie event in 2004.
He said.... (While looking under a piece of furniture) "Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be here somewhere."
Then, while pretending to look out of a window, Bush laughed as he said..... "Nope, no weapons over there."
While he was laughing, there were men and women fighting and dying in Iraq because of WMD.
George W. Bush should be removed from office because of that alone.
Face it, Bill Clinton lied about having sex, and was impeached because of it.
George W. Bush however, did far worse, as he laughed at the very people who are fighting for the United States of America!
That about sums it all up!
(By the way, this Bush/WMD was part of an article and letter I wrote as well.)
This leads us to John McCain.
All he seems to do is attack other candidates.
His Woodstock ad against Hillary Clinton was boring and without the facts.
He tells of Hillary wanting to spend a million dollars on a museum while he (McCain) supports spending more on the war in Iraq.
He wants you to believe that the Democrats are the big spenders, while it is McCain's Republican Party that has spent all the money Bill Clinton left us to a point where Bush had to borrow money from China.
Think about that again.
We owe to China.
That is the Republican way.
Also, it must be noted that McCain even laughed at war.
Remember when McCain changed the words of a Beach Boys song to Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Iran?
McCain even laughed when he was done.
He thought starting a war with Iran was a laughing matter.
That is the real John McCain.
He just can't be trusted.
He is another George Bush, and you know what we got with him.
The Republican Party is a mess, and getting worse.
People do not trust any of them, and we are all tired of their act.
I am doing my best to make sure that no Republican wins an election.
Thank you for your time.

George, whoa buddy! I don't have time right now to debate some of your claims, but could you please in 1000 words or less explain exactly why you think any democrat can be trusted? Don't you really think they(both parties) are all crooked liars?

Bill Clinton didn't leave us any money - he got a surplus by stealing from social security and the surplus was not created by Clinton in any way.

I am not a Bush fan by any means, but you cannot be serious in calling Republicans crooks and support Clinton. Really preposterous.

Transformers wasn't too bad so maybe Speed Racer will be ok.

I grew up watching Speed and watched my little brother grow up watching transformers so I have higher expectations for Speed.

Agree we will not invade Iran again this year.

How about this one - CITIBANK will go under and get bailed out by all of us taxpayers even after getting billions from Abu Dhabi. We will all get soaked since they cannot be allowed to go under even it is because of their poor and reckless decisions.

I predict the george vreeland hill will continue to post political screeds with very little factual content in web logs not devoted to political discussion. I also predict that he will make some absurd remarks about my political persuasion based on my predictions, but will wildly miss the mark.

Unfortunately, IF there are fewer submarines in the news in 2008 it will only be by pure dumb luck. The Submarine Force leadership (from NR to SUBFOR) are doing little but sticking their heads in the sand and hoping everything gets better. For example, with more and more ELT problems (at least 5 different problems didn't make the news after HAMPTON did), NR and SUBFOR prefer to blame individuals rather than a systemic problem. Either the "system" causes all these ELT's to go bad, or society is not capable of providing young men with the moral courage and honor to do what is right. (Maybe a little of both.) In either case, our "leadership" is ignoring the signs staring them in there face.

P.S. These problems go far beyond ELT's, I guess I picked on them only because they made the news most recently.

In 2008, I believe Jessica Biel will still not call me.
And if they hose up Speed Racer, there will be blood in the streets.
Oh Yes.

Joel, This GVH post is crazy, I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. He probably thinks that GW caused teh recession as well. I am a firm believer that we truely don't feel the impacts of a president until they are gone, and if Bush caused the recession all the nobel prize winning economists should be quiet about their economic models that predicted the recession while Clinton was still hiding behind his popularity polls. I guess all of my post grad economics classes were a waste!

To Sub PCO, it just so happens one of my best friends is a Pac Squadron ELT and we discussed this issue as a fleet issue this weekend and talked in depth about a not only fleet problem but all military problem of younger guys promoting fast and not having any leadership experience and failing (especially in Nuc Power) at least there is a natural progression in the officer community and wickets you must meet and opportunity to recieve the mentoring and leadership experience before you are a DH. In the enlisted ranks, it is possible that a young sailor can be the Chief on their second sea tour, and what are Junior Div-O's told, trust your Chief, he knows what is going on. Now some of them don't.

Anyhow that's my 2 cents, nice predictions Joel. I am off to do NKO courese in preperation for deployment to Kuwait.

From a faithful reader that doesn't want to disclose identity for security purposes (I am not a submariner, but am closely related to someone that is actively serving)...

Please tell Mr. GVH to state his opinion in one paragraph OR less. It's rather annoying to read such a lengthy comment.

On other notes, I hope Speed Racer turns out great. The absence of submarine news in 2008? Well, I haven't formed an opinion...yet.

Joel, you're an outstanding blogger and I sure do enjoy everything that I read here, including the majority of comments. It's quite entertaining and amusting at times.

Joel,
You Stated:
3) A team from some conference other than the SEC will win the college football championship in January 2008, breaking a 2 year streak.

I'm sure you meant 2009, it being past your bedtime and all, but you're already wrong. LSU won it on January 7th.

Rich, this is not a "military problem of younger guys promoting fast and not having any leadership experience and failing".
I was The RC div Chief on my last tour and had a liberty limiting item to get an exam in, at 1800 when I was grading it the ENG and Bull walked by and told me not to bother because it was too late and they had already matrixed it.
I had my SRTP returned with comments from the XO that it was unsat and I needed to fix it because the DivO wasn’t at enough divisional training, the XO had attended these two (he hadn’t been) and the CO must have been present for at least one.
Out of 4 tours there has only been one where the department exam grades weren’t filled in to get the correct average and failure percentage, most times exams were taken, but the scores were independent, most of the time the exams weren’t even graded.
The integrity problems are driven from the top, the “natural progression in the officer community and wickets you must meet and opportunity to receive the mentoring and leadership experience before you are a DH” is driving the integrity deficit.
There are too many requirements to meet all of them, but the leadership is unwilling to blow off some of them, instead they demand that the paperwork reflect what should have happened.

I remember when I was on the boat...if everyone passed, the test was too easy. If everyone failed, the training was inadequate. Some things never change.
