USS Boise Receives Battle "E"

Here's a NAVSUBFOR picture of the CO of USS Boise (SSN 764) receiving the Battle "E" plaque on behalf of his crew from the Commodore of SUBRON 8, CAPT Don Kelso:

The full list of Battle "E" winners can be found here; as you can see, the officers and crew of USS Boise are in good company. Congratulations, and thanks for making your namesake city proud!

Kelso was my Eng on the PA back in the early 90's. His dad was CNO at the time. I saw him again when he turned over command of the Hartford a few years ago.

Wow. Had you told me three years ago that this boat would go from getting so much "help" to winning the Battle E, I would have laughed in your FACE.

It has become a sad day when Nuclear side of the boat can play such a large role in an award like the Battle E. This ships Sonar Division was rated Below Standards. You can shoot what you can't find. Captains’ today are told "You can survive even excel with a bad TRE bad fail ORSE and your career is done". Enough of my bitching, Good job Boise

Funny, I seem to remember the last TRE before the '06-'07 deployment sonar was scored a high average and was just a couple points away from being above average. Sonar was never a BA on any of the TRE's we were on. The good TRE score played a major role along with everyone else in getting the "E". And in the words of STSCS Langley the sonar evaluator for that TRE, "Biggie is a machine". :)
