Submarine Song -- Out In The Wild
G-Man over at USS Dolphin has discovered that what many submariners have feared would happen has come to pass -- the sacred "Submarine Song" has been posted on YouTube (very, very Bad Word warning):
I guess I knew it had to happen someday. I don't blame these Submariners for posting it -- it's important that our heritage be recorded for posterity. That being the case, I should point out that this version is normally the one you "sing" when there are skimmers in the bar and you want them to punch you. (Remember: Don't sing it to skimmers unless they outnumber you by less than 2:1 -- while all Submariners can beat up two skimmers at a time, it gets dicier when it's 3 on 1.) The normal version chanted when there are just Submariners present ends thusly: "...gobble gobble goo; we're Submariners, who the f___ are you?"
Another Submarine secret goes by the wayside. Since it's not tactically important, I guess I'm OK with it.

The hell... what are non-quals doing off the boat?!?

I haven't heard that song in a good...three days! There's nothing wrong with getting it out there, although they are still lacking a few versus.
And of course this being the PC Navy, these young Sailors may never experience singing the song at an MWR sponsored floor show in Subic Bay while young naked, ladies sit on the faces of the entire Wardroom, CO on down, in front of the crew. To top it off, the XO licked the CO's face clean...and the XO didn't even drink! Ah, the 80's, what a decade for decadence!

I've been a submariner for five years, and that's the first time I've seen anybody active duty sing it.... ever. I've only heard it sung by retired guys at the Horse and Cow.

So, how long has that song been around? Some cavalry scouts in Nampa, Idaho, has a similar verse circa 1984. It started with the Bat sh!t line. So, I wonder who plagerized who.
BTW, I think the Army Hooah! actually started from the movie Scent of a Woman. I've been in the Army since 1973, and never heard that until after the movie came out.

RM1(SS). Sorry to say, I'm a boomer radioman. I heard sailors from the USS Providence singing this in the honch in Yokosuka. It will be my duty to make sure that every NUB that comes to me for a checkout knows this. The tradition must be caried on.

that song was an honored tradition on my boat, reserved almost strictly for use overseas. In addition, we required any nuke nub who was going to be pinned underway to recite it in maneuvering, from memory, to the satisfaction of the watchstanders. get it right, nub!

That's the first time I've ever heard in and I've been in since '99. Anyone mind shooting me the full song? I wouldn't mind having it for posterity. I'm thinking it might go in my shadow box.

Worthless nubs that clearly lost their way. They broke a tradition, aparently nothing is sacred when idiots are allowed to roam. I hope to never see a single one of them, or for that matter all 3.

"Been in since ______, and never heard this song", thats the saddest thing I've heard since the Force Master Chief made us stop singing it at the San Diego Submarine Birthday Ball the year after tailhook

This will not really have effect, I consider like this.

I found a great deal of effective data in this post!

I got my fish in 1980 on a diesel boat (DBF) and we had to sing it before we drank our dolphins in the gutter (red garter saloon) in san diego

Sang this with the MCPON in Hawaii at the Sub Birthday ball. :)
