Submarines In Commercials

One thing we don't see enough of is submarine-themed commercials. Here's one:

Another one (in Polish) is here. What's your favorite use of submarines in commercials?

Who keeps leaking our classified ASW development programs to the British? Maybe Anna Chapman DID uncover some of our national secrets after all...

Only the mention of submarines, but how Oreck touts its electronic air filters as "This air purifier is built with the same electrostatic precipitation technology used in the United States Navy's nuclear submarine fleet". Not much of a selling point for an EM.

After I got out in 1980, went to work on the submarine Auguste Piccard PX8. First underway off Pt.Loma was to make a commercial for Mercury. They mounted a framework athwartship, and loaded a gutted brand new car.Only things that worked were lights and wipers. We surfaced snd submerged 20 or 30 times till the skipper got tired of the film crews crap.Set the boat down on the bottom, made dinner, and went to sleep. In the AM we had breakfast, and surfaced. The film company was pretty pissed, but we continued the shoot for a few more hours. Interesting first 2 days on a new boat! Fun times. No uniforms, saluting, with 4 times the pay of an STS1/SS.

Off-topic: the NYT had a Family Guy-esque opinion piece written today by a book author regarding the Trident replacement. He was inspired while raking for clams in Puget Sound and seeing one ofthe T-hulls go by. I guess he's as good as the next guy for determining the U.S.'s future military strategy. Being a non-mil book author does kind of put you up there in CinC (Community Organizer in Chief) status.

Renault commercial from 1985 or '86. One of their cars gets catapulted off the flight deck of a bird farm. There's a brief pause, and then a boomer surfaces with the car sitting on it. Bird farm and boomer were presumably both French, but don't quote me on that....

There is a web banner that pops up on some websites right now (YouTube is one) that says "Old spice smells like nuclear submarines and brass knuckles, not charm bracelets and honeysuckle.) Obviously, no one from their ad agency has ever actually smelled a nuclear submarine! I certainly wouldn't buy a deodorant that smells like amine, diesel and sweat.
