Breaking News... and some Old Breaking News
Yahoo! News reports that embattled CNN News Executive Eason Jordan is resigning over really stupid comments he made to the effect that American troops were targetting journalists. Blackfive has all the background information... just keep scrolling.
Update: It looks like the Democratic Underground crowd isn't quite sure what to think about this, but most of them seem to agree that it's more evidence of American fascism.
In Old Breaking News, The World Tribune reports that two Israeli F-16s shot down two Syrian MiG-29s in an air battle over the eastern Mediterranean Ocean in September 2004.
"This was the first engagement between Israeli and Syrian fighter-jets since the 1980s. The sources said the air battle took place when Israel Air Force fighter-jets buzzed the Syrian city of Latakia, a port used by Iran for the shipment of weapons to Hizbullah.
"The Washington-based Reform Party of Syria first provided details of the Israeli-Syrian dogfight. RPS said the air battle took place on Sept. 14, 2004, adding that both downed pilots were rescued by Syrian military helicopters, Middle East Newsline reported.
"RPS, quoting a European source, said the Israeli fighter-jets used an Israeli-origin Python-4 air-to-air missile to down one of the MiG-29s. The other Syrian MiG-29 was shot down by a U.S.-origin AIM-9M Sidewinder."
If true, this would be the latest in a continuing line of examples that American weaponry is the best in the world; of course, the superiority of Israeli pilots over their Syrian counterparts probably plays a role as well.
Update 1822 11 Feb: I had to log in to get rid of my first weird spam comment (something about creating an anti-Bush googlebomb) so I figured I'd provide a link to Michelle Malkin's update post on the background of the Eason Jordan story.
Update 0040 13 Feb: Actually, if you want the complete timeline for the Eason Jordan story, go to Easongate.
