TWO TERRORISTS SELF-DESTRUCT WHILE BUILDING CAR BOMB

"BAGHDAD, Iraq – Task Force Baghdad dispatched elements to the scene where two terrorists attempting to build a car bomb were killed when the device prematurely detonated in central Baghdad Nov. 2. Elements dispatched included an explosives ordnance disposal team and a patrol from 6th Squadron, 8th Calvary Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team.
"The explosion also killed an Iraqi civilian and set a nearby house on fire. Iraqi firefighters responded to douse the flames.
"The EOD team determined the terrorists had been building the vehicle-carried improvised explosive device using a 122 mm projectile, ball bearings and about 80 pounds of homemade explosives.
"During a sweep of the house, the 6-8 Cav. Soldiers found another 122 mm projectile, five hand grenades, three A-47 assault rifles, an RPK machine gun and AK-47 magazines."

When I was at CENTCOM, we'd see the "after" pictures of the various jihadis who weren't as skilled in the art of bomb-making and -placement. I figured the reason our casualties from IEDs were going up during that time was that the bomb-makers who had survived the first few bloody (for them) months of the insurgency had gotten pretty good at it. It looks like maybe they're running out of those guys now, and are bring in some new "talent".
