It's Good To Be CO
Navy NewsStand has a picture of the CO of my old boat USS Connecticut (SSN 22) and a guest:

Daniel Christofferson, commanding officer of the fast attack submarine USS Connecticut (SSN 22) shows Miss Connecticut 2006 Heidi Voight the ship’s periscope during a tour of the boat.My first two boats were the "tour boats" of their squadrons; Topeka because we were the newest PacFleet SSN for about a year, and Connecticut because we were the newest SSN period. Being the "tour boat" meant you had to keep the forward part of the boat "inspection ready" at all times, so that sucked, but I personally liked giving the tours. I've found that unless the CO is a suck-up like some I knew or heard about, he'll normally pass on the tour guide duties to the XO or Duty Officer unless it's he was ordered to give the tour himself -- or unless the guest is someone like Miss Connecticut. Captain Christofferson made a wise choice...

My first boat had a little fella like that. He liked to march around in a r/w/blue ballcap. Had an ego to match it. We fondly called him "scooter". Our XO? He was an ID10T, loved to fall asleep with his finger in his nose, and he was known as "booger".
What was funny? The little fella had to tiptoe around on the periscope well coaming so that he could see out of our modified type 2 scope (597).
Well Joel, I can say that I was on the SLOWEST attack submarine ever made, LOL!

Heh. One JO was a smaller fella, and his guys built him a step for the scope. Which was nice till some nuke said "rig for idiot" and, poof, 'twas never used agin.
That was on the boat where Waddle was my XO, by the way.
My next boat was slower than 597...Kam with both shelters going flank was about as fast as a bottle of molasses poured on a snail.

Looks like Miss CT was thrilled with the size of the Attack Scope. Maybe it was the way the CO was able to do the 360 rotation without stopping.

Ahhh... guys. Just a civilian lurker but a friend of Heidi's:
a.) Be nice to Heidi. She is a classy lady; a very BIG supporter of the American Legion; doesn't flaunt it and is in love with a Marine. What more could you ask for?
b. Be nice to the CO, too. What you don't know is that Heidi is at least as tall as I am and I am 6' 1". Heidi would make most of you look short.

He was the Eng on my first boat, Ohio (B). He sat my qual board for my dolphins. Great guy. He did have to stand on the scope fairing to see out.
