VADM Stufflebeem Fired
VADM "Boomer" Stufflebeem, an aviator who was Director of the Navy Staff and former Sixth Fleet Commander, was fired late last week for lying to the Inspector General about an "inappropriate relationship" he had 18 years ago when he was Naval Aide to former President Bush.
So here's the questions -- why would an Admiral get investigated for a relationship that happened 18 years ago? One reader suggests that maybe the product of that relationship was applying to get into Annapolis. Any other suggestions from the peanut gallery? And who will now inherit the title of "Admiral with the most humorous name"?

According to the article he was relieved due to false and misleading statements made to the IG about the relationship.
Maybe it was too long ago to make any hay over that, but maybe it was part of another investigation involving the "inappropriate relationship".
My guess it was with an enlisted member, and perhaps it wasn't your traditional/normal sort of inappropriate relationship.
A lot of speculation...

the fighter guys stick together. tightly. stufflebeem was a compatriot of my former fighter guy ex-husband (who had his wedding ring off when he schmoozed me at oceana, nas)- this is the tip of the iceberg with these guys (based on years of first-hand observation), sad to say i was complicit. the cheaters lie, their cell-phone records never do. nor do their financial records...

My take on this:
He was a naughty boy 18 years ago.
There was an accusation 18 years that cleared him.
Now comes the accuser with a letter droping a dime.
I'm wondering why this guy isn't putting up a fight.Maybe he is guilty.
Either way guilty or not guilty I think it's way passed any statue of limitations. I think it's a bit late to accuse someone of inappropriate behavior.

Men are exactly how women want us to be.
Women, for the most part, get to choose who they're with. The men they choose pass their traits on to the next generation, and thus each subsequent generation becomes more like what women actually want in a man. It's obvious that the "fighter jock" mentality appeals to women as a subset of "marry the nerd, but fool around with the Bad Boy" reproductive strategy.
So it's hard for me to condemn a guy for doing just what he's been biologically programmed (and selectively bred) to do. Plus, fighter jocks can't be all that bad, since they've never made a "Fighter Jocks Gone Wild" video, other than the Tailhook '91 footage.
Which was admittedly pretty wild.

An accusation does not make the man guilty. I know the old saying "where there's smoke...." but it's not always true. One should not project one's own unhappy experiences into this story.
Why isn't he fighting? What's the point? His upward trajectory is ended with the accusation.
Very unfortunate. Both for Boomer and the Navy.

He was actually the "Military Aide" to President George H.W. Bush, not the Naval Aide.
Translation: He carried the "football."
An interesting story, in any case. And, very apparently, it hasn't all been told.

Not knowing what the IG was investigation I can't comment on the where and how of it. I think the Admiral was fired not because of the 18 year old "inappropriate relationship" but because he lied to the IG (I have to assume, like telling a lie to a fedral investigater it’s something that they can put you in jail for (ex. Martha Stewart). As my dad has always said the lie can get you in more trouble then the original offence, or its not the crime it’s the coverup.

I forgot who the Navy's IG is. Now it all makes sense. Like any P-3 guy he is simply stabbing a shipmate in the back to get ahead!
Of course it is not like the IG has never had any of those types of complaints himself.........

This BS pisses me off. I worked for this guy at 6flt. He is one the two coolest, rational and smartest guys i have ever worked for. To bring up something that happened 18years ago is BS. If you had a problem with what he did 18 years ago you should have said something then. What a bunch of crap to destroy a guy after he worked so hard to get were he is.

I knew Boomer long before he went to work at the First Household. Being a former enlisted man, he was always the first to fight for and first to congratulate us lowly maintainers.
18 years previous? Please! I actually searched and found the DoD IG report, and read it front to back.
There's a lot of speculation and conjecture, and little on the "evidence" side.
My comment, "Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone!"
Sad to see such a good person brought down by someone who has nothing to gain except the satisfaction that they've brought a good man down.
I'm sure if Boomer were a card carrying member of the ACLU and Democratic Party, he would have been elevated to CNO.

I lost my job because of a dishonest army Col in Iraq.
From what I was told, Col Kirk Johnson ran his own contract without guidance from above. From what I know he regularly bought apple laptops to hand out to friends and co-workers, maybe thats why he didn't get in trouble? I left a job to come to the DoD and 2 weeks later I was told the contract was lost, even though col johnson said don't worry.

Actually, I have got to know ADM Stufflebeem during his time at the WH. I truly doubt the allegations that are being made now. Why wait 18 years to make them and anonymously? How can you defend yourself for something you may not remember from years ago?
I am sure that if someone asked you for exacting details of something that happened to you 18 years ago, you will not be able to remember things clearly. All it would take confusing one thing for another and someone "finds" something you are trying to hide. If someone has an axe to grind, you are screwed no matter what.
I am sure that John (yes, I know him well enough to call him John) could see the tea leaves saying that the allegation was enough to torpedo his career, guilty or not. Unfortunately, with allegations of rape or "inappropriate relationships", you are guilty until proven innocent in this country.
When cannot make ANY judgement in this case other than something he told the IG that was later on found not to be correct. Between the allegation and the screw up on memory, he could see that his career was over and it is time to just go on with life.
