The results of the FY13 Submarine Force Administrative Boards are all out, including CO/XO and DH. Congratulations to all selected! (The Major Command list came out back in November.)

Congratulations to all the selectees!! One thing I noticed, there was an individual who screened for XO during the FY-12 board but now he is listed as an XOSS selectee from the FY-13 board. Has anyone heard of this happening before?

Submarine Support is often looked at as the 2nd string. Those are the guys that go to NSSC, etc. Although, I know of a couple that ended up with a boat after a firing or med disqual.

I know more than a handful from the CO list, a few from the COSS list, and none from the XO lists. Reading the list is a bit like a power school or SOBC reunion. Congrats to all. Me, I'm glad I retired 3 years ago.

Wow, all the nubs when I rotated are now screening for DH. The senior JO when I arrived screened for XO. I lost track of time.

Congrats to all of those selected! In regards to the comment above, I see a few guys on the COSS list who are anything but second string- top notch guys who are nothing but class and would excel as a Commanding Officer.

That is a little uncommon. The board does review all records of previously screened officers that are not serving the position to ensure there isn't a huge negative that would impact their screening status. Normally you might see someone's screening status removed, but not shifted from XO to XOSS. Things such as a DUI can cause someone to loose their screening status.

I know more than a few of them, and they're good people. As for the COSS selectees, more than one will eventually get his own boat, if history is any indication.

I served with Chris Bohner (CO list) twice... once when I was a newbie JO as he was rotating off, and then again when I was a senior JO and he was rotating onto the same boat as a DH! Really happy to see his name on the list; he was/is an awesome submariner.
(Also, where has the time gone?!?)

How many looks to the DHs have for XO screen?

How may looks do DHs get for XO and what percentage gets picked on their first look?

You get three looks for XO and I think that the goal is to select
%30 for first look.
If you do not scren XO or XOSS, you can apply for a lateral transfer into a different Community. If you are not accepted into another Community, then you have to get out of the Navy.

That's not true. There are plenty of unscreened 1120 guys still in the fleet that weren't forced out. You lose the bonus and sub pay. You don't have to apply for lateral xfer.

The promotion opportunity is pretty low for these guys but a few make it based on what job they are doing. Most retire at 20 as a LCDR.

Being a COSS I can tell you there are many things the submarine force needs us around for. There is such a shortage of O5 and O6 1120s for the number of jobs that need to be filled that they initiated a bonus and "CO equivalent" jobs to maintain promotion potential and keep us around. Unless SERBed you can continue serving until mandatory retirement (28yrs for an O5 and 30 for O6).

Based on today's environment in the Navy and the 21st century sailor initiative any substantiated alcohol incident would have resulted in complete removal of his screening (descreened). Not sure what caused this to happen though.

Pers 42 website has the latest Community Status Brief. Slides 26 and 30 cover the CO/XO screen percentages (CO:20/50/30, XO:30/50/20).

Theron Davis was my last XO. A great man to work with and for and I would be happy to serve as his XO. He certainly deserved this screening.
